Leaders who Blog:Our school and classroom blogs serve as a communication platformand digital portfolio. My personal blog links media, technology andcurrent events. My school blog chronicles school and school boardtechnology happenings.My blog shares ways to integrate technology as well as myleadership thoughts and ideas. I share my blog with our teachersand administrators. Often teachers will ask me questions about atool or a way to do something with digital resources, and if Ivewritten about it already or compiled resources I simply link them tomy blog post or wiki resource page. Having a blog and wiki saves metime in the long run and helps me organize what I have alreadyresearched and wrote about. 31. Impact on School CultureExpanded the classroom walls of learning. Students see technologyaccess as more than just gossiping on Facebook or Twitter; they arebeginning to see the more practical uses of social media forlearning.It has helped us create a student centred school that allowsstudents to have choice and influence in their learning. It has helpedus create real and powerful learning experiences and connected ourkids with people all over the world.Almost every teacher has an iPad and we have made it apart ofevery staff meeting. We are steadily moving towards using someform of technology in every classroom and building a schoolstructure to promote tech in the classroom. 32. Impact on School CultureWe have gone from desktop, stand alones to iPads and 1:1 in just 1.5years. Attendance is up 15%. Discipline incidents are down.Graduation rate has increased. Parental involvement has increased.Student pride and engagement is up. Instruction and academicengagement is up.The biggest impact has been with teaching students to be cognizantof their digital footprint. This group of students has always knowntechnology; few have other means to communicate. Using Facebook,Instagram and Twitter inappropriately have had negativeconsequences on some students (bullying, difficulty securingemployment, questions from college admissions).Integrating a viable online blog in ELA courses has helped studentsself correct, monitor others writings, and learn quickly from pastmistakes. 33.
