However, COVID-19 has dramatically changed this. The impact on tourism enterprises and workers, the majority being young women, is unprecedented. The tourism industry has been hit hard by the necessary measures taken to contain the pandemic, and it seems unlikely that the sector will return to normalcy any time soon. His research interests are on sustainable tourism, destination marketing and tourism education. He teaches Tourism and economic development, Tourism marketing and Sustainable tourism development. He has supervised and graduated a number of MA and PhD students. He has taught in different universities and acquired a diversified academic experience within Southern Africa. He has published extensively in the area of tourism and authored several book chapters, conference presentations and academic papers. MEL BONGANI NTOMBELA is Deputy Chairperson at the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tourism Forum. He is also the Chairperson of INK Tourism (Community Tourism Organization) since 2017. Mel Ntombela is also owner/ director of lsimanje Travel; a subsidiary of lsimanje Marketing Group (Pty) LTD since 20I3. His business journey started before when he registered his first company in 2005. Other sectors I has provided hismarketing and management services in are, Media, fashion, entertainment and construction. RONELLE PILLAY is Revenue and Sales Manager, Tsogo Sun Hotels (KZN Region). She has built her career learning and respecting the transactional roles of the hospitality sector from Reception , Reservations , Front Office and Conferencing. Stakeholder alignment and collaboration are fundamental disciplines she has maintained throughout her career. Amongst her achievements, Ronelle was a regional finalist in 2012 for the Business Women’s Association of South Africa . In 2018 she received her American Hotel & Lodging Association and International certification for Hospitality Revenue Management. She then went onto being nominated in Business Leadership and completed her Executive Development Programme for Women in Tourism in 2018-2019. In September 2019 she qualified and certified as a Professional Business Life Coach through the Neuroleadership Institute Corporate Solutions SA. She is passionate about women upliſtment. She believes is continuous learning and growth . Her focus is adding value to the business and contribution to the Tourism industry in South Africa. JOHN ARITHO is currently Chairman of the Durban Chamber of Commerce Tourism Forum and General Manager of the Beverly Hills Hotel. He has been with the Tsogo Sun Hotel Group for the last 24 years having opened and operated hotels in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Seychelles, India, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Dubai. John has worked with brands such as the Intercontinental Hotels, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands in various parts of the world. He won the Best Environmental Hotelier for Southern Sun Qamardeen Hotel in Dubai in 2012 and has been involved in guest lectures at various hospitality colleges both in the UAE and South Africa. John has a great love for people development and has been involved in recruitment of staff for many hotels that the group has opened over the years in various countries and cities. He is currently also Deputy Chairman for FEDHASA – KZN Region– National Federation of Hospitality Association of Southern Africa, a member of the KZN Chaine de Rotisseurs as well as a Board Member of the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Programme ( UIP) that ensures a clean, safe and green Umhlanga. John is a dedicated family man, an avid motorcycle enthusiast and classic car collector and restorer in his free time. He is involved in various charity events through his passion for classic cars and motorcycles. DINESH NAIDOO is co founder & Director of Serendipity Tours. Dinesh has served on several important Tourism boards & is the current president of ASATA (Association of Travel Agents South Africa).
