THIMUN First, there were the tryouts. Then the cuts andthe final selection. Months of preparation and hours ofhard work. And, of course, the night before butterfliescoupled with the random bursts of excitement.

    No, this wasn't ISSEA.It was THIMUN 2012.

Leaving behind sunny Dar es Salaam for thecold winds of Den Haag, Holland (but, unfortunately,

    no snow!) Thursday, January 19th

, the nineteen-studentdelegation was ready to represent Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Five days of intense resolution merging, amending, debating and, of course, making friendswith people from all over the globe. With two membershonoring our school in the prestigious SecurityCouncil, Ankit being the face of the Twigas as Ambassador of Bosnia-Herzegovina and even threeMUN students in the Advisory Panel representingTurkey, Croatia and the Palestinian Authority, ISTearned itself a good reputation at the conference.

But...some of you may not know...what isMUN? Model United Nations is a simulation of theUN, where solutions to a variety of world issues areproposed and then debated in a formal environment. There are different committees e.g. Human Rights,Disarmament, Environment etc. so there's at least onetopic that's bound to interest you enough to take astand. It is a great way not only to develop your public

speaking skills and become personally aware aboutcurrent affairs but also to make friends with peoplefrom everywhere and anywhere!

This year's THIMUN conference went well andour school consisted of main submitters, passedresolutions, a failed resolution or two, co-main submitters,

main clause submitters and nineteen hard-working students!

Whatsayyou,MUNerMeeting new people was one of the mointeresting things in the Conference butthen also there was the unique debates.

    Shalin, Gr9

THIMUN was a compilation of 4,000teenagers from around the world, ready debate global issues and kick butt at it,ruthless, excited and cold.

-Anonymous, IB1Simply one of the best weeks of my lifeterms of learning, making new friends, and 'saving the world'.

-Faizan, Gr10Experience of a lifetime. I can truly sayI'm more confident with public speaking

-Tayba, IB1Being in APQ was truly an eyeopeningexperience as I had the opportunity to

speak much more and form closer bondswith the other experts in my committee.

-Ashna, Gr10"The THIMUN 2012 conference wasamazing, I learnt a lot about myself andthe world I live in, and I met some greatpeople. I would definitely do it again, andrecommend it to everyone at IST."

-Asli, Gr10"The conference on the whole was a fun-filled learning experience in which we go

to meet people from all over the world julike us and then we get to discuss our viewith them. Its amazing. -Murad, Gr9"The thimun conference was an amazingweek, its such a unique experience and igives you the chance to meet so many newpeople." -Anonymous, Gr10

    The Perfect Guy

According to me, the perfect guy should first and foremost, know how to respect a woman, an

he should be respected himself. No one wants to date someone with a bad reputation unless

hey're into the whole "bad boy" thing. He should be willing to put time aside for his significan

other. And when it comes to all the other lovey dovey stuff.. hmm.. spontaneous :D funny :D

mart :D Responsible and most importantly, he should be able to think at the same frequency

you :) I like smart men, men who I am able to have an intelligent conversation with ;)

My perfect guy would have to be able to never run out of time to talk to me. Nor should he ru

out of objects of conversation with me.

Resemble Ryan Gosling. Basically he has to be Ryan Gosling. Because the more like Ryan Gosli

you are, the more perfect you are, because he is perfect. DEM ABZ!

Perfect guy should be: aware, care, cute, funny, random, open, not awkward, accepting.

The Image asks girls around school about what a perfect guy is:

The Perfect GirlThe Image asks girls around school about what a perfect girl is:

The perfect girl would be a girl who regularly does things that make you want to high five her

perfect girl should be: pretty, caring, loving and most of all friendly

he perfect girl would not look too much into unimportant things

he perfect girl isnt always looking for reassuring remarks like No thats not true! You look

mazing., and she also speaks her mind instead of hinting and expecting us to guess.

    he Perfect girl is honest

he Perfect girl is a myth

    Agony Uncle

I'm writing to get feedback on a crush I've recently developed.I've got serious problems with one of my teachers. There's nothing

wrong with her, per say, just the way I feel about her. My day is about

ten times better when I see her, (I'm the biggest advocate of the school's

rotating schedule now, I can see her throughout the week!) But I can'tseem to function in her class. I'm failing her class, actually! I'm just so

absorbed by her, and the way she turns around and yells my name to

wake me from a dazed stupor. I don't know what to do with her. If I tell

her how I feel and we start going out, then everyone might get really

jealous. But you know, I could save myself that embarrassment and just

ignore it. But how can I ignore her terrific beauty and her love for her

subject? And seriously, how the hell am I supposed to pass?

    Dear Hit the girl,

Being reasonable and realistic has its place. And when

it comes to matters of the heart, there is no place for

that. We both no that drawing her, trying to forget her,

and concentrating on your work won't solve that

problem. There is one thing that will: giving it a shot.

Now, I'm not saying you should pursue her at any

costs, no. I think you should tell her, but you should goin knowing that chances are she will turn you down,

and if she does youve got to let it go. At least you will

know you gave it a try and you can finally forget it.

And if for some reason she says yes, god knows why,

then who cares about the law? Im sorry to say it, but

you got the girl! Enjoy it! Stop worrying about what

might happen. So yeah, go for it, and hope for the best.

Other wise, how can you possibly move on?

    Agony Uncle

Dear agony Aunt and uncle(I thought I might need both your opinions, my plight is just insane),

From, hit the girl or the books?

Agony AuntDear Hit the books,I think it's time for a little tough love. You really didn

mention how old you were, but regardless, I'm

relatively sure you're not older than 18. If you're olde

than 18, then, well, what are you doing sitting around

mooning over teachers in IB? You're married to the IB

stop messing about! If you're not in IB and 18, the

maybe it's time to take a look at your life and thin

about why you're still not in IB2 and getting out oschool in a few months. Maybe it's because of you

terrifically beautiful teacher who's driving you t

distraction so maybe you need to draw a picture of he

in your head with giant warts and pimples and greyin

hair and generally unappealing qualities and replac

that with her actual self so you actually concentrate i

class. If you're younger than 18, I'm sorry to be the on

to inform you that you're too young for her. Who says

The law. She is officially a pedophile if you decided t

go out with this teacher and she (in some excessivelhypothetical case) allowed you to take her out. There'

not a chance in the world, bud. Let it go, and get ove

this crush! There's plenty of cute girls (who ar

beautifully legal) and that won't be slapped wit

harassment charges by your parents.Time to ignore your teacher and most definitely hit th

    books!Love, Agony Aunt

HeartfeltHow can you love what you want to hate,This voice taunting you, telling you its too late,Because you can't love what you want to hate,Because that's a love destined straight for

    heartbreak.

But I've been loving too long to let go,Fallen in too deep to get out, that's for sure,And even though I try not to feel it,There's a part of me that'll always want more.

And I can avoid you, ignore you, erase the wordsyou said,But that doesn't make you invisible in my head,

No matter what I do, how hard I try,I still love you, that's something I can't deny.

Despite everything that you put me through,All the nights I lay in bed feeling like the darkestshade of blue,Every morning I was somehow led back to you,And these are facts, though I wish they weren'ttrue.

I could go on living this life like I don't care,

Walk away from the pain, the hurt, the despair,But when I think about it and I think hard,I'm just setting myself up for a life that isn't fair.

I wish you would take your head out the clouds,Just for a minute, a second if that's too much toask,All I want is for you to look into me, and promiseyou care,I know you can do it, repeating history can't bethat hard a task.

Or maybe the reality is that we just can't be,If we fight and we argue and we fail to agree,

I always believed that, in the end, what we had wenough,But perhaps it was an illusion, a non-existentpicture we pretended to see.

I guess I don't really know where to go now,But I just need you to know one small thing,No matter where you end up, whatever path youtake,My heart belongs to you, please keep it safe.

ValentinesYou ask me to dance,We talk a while.I think theres something,A spark of sorts. But there is no feeling. Then you ignore me.Because I am young,Nave. At least you dont know:

Ive never been kissed.Theres no more dancing,Nor conversation.

    A nod and a bye,Sums it up.Then I realize,The spark just grew.

And a flame is killing me from the inside.

    Valentines is the day when

    all the lazy people (people

    very much like myself)

attempt to do what we guys

    should do every day with

the women in our lives whowe love, like, adore, or are

    just plain infatuated with.

    E i th e r w e b u y th e m

    chocolates, flowers, or

    maybe another token that is

    b e t t e r a t e x p r e s s i n g

    affection than we are. Some

guys may even take it upon

    themselves to make a

    present, and those are the

    men who actually take the

    time, and it shows how

much they care about theirgirls. While it can often feel

    that Valentines day about

    materialism, as the presents

    we give are usually physical

    but the concept of valentine

    is actually much more than

that. It is not only a day

dedicated to love, its also a

    day dedicated to the most

    beautiful thing that has been

    p u t o n t h i s e a r t h :

    womenkind. People can

    argue at which gender

    better at different thin

    men or women. Its only

    matter of opinion. I thi

    everybody would agree th

if women did not exist, thwe (the guys) would be t

    most miserable beings

    this earth. Women are wh

give us hope; they are wh

    gives us that inspiration

    be better. They are wh

    completes us, and wh

    motivates us. Who wou

    have written poetry? W

    would have painted T

    Mona Lisa? Who wou

    have sculpted Venus

Milo if it werent thanksgirls? They are the beauti

    flowers of the garden

    call earth. Like the gr

This valentines day, is the perfect time

to confess your love to that special

someone you've been waiting to tell

those three magic words to ever since

you saw them. It's every girl's dream to have that

special someone confess his love for her

in a romantic way! Just keep in mind,

the only thing you don't want to do, is

tell your girlfriend, that she's not the

right one on valentines day, for the

    numerous couples moving around will

not do any good to her. They will, in

fact, make her desire revenge. The last

thing you want is your "ex" interfering

in your new courtship that would haveended up with the both of you being

that perfect couple everyone looks up

to!So this valentines day, act responsibly

    and good luck with confessions!

The first Kissust because it's Valentine's, we decided to get the dirt on your teache

We asked a few select teachers to tell us a little something about thrst kisses, and here, in their very own words (or as close as we co

et), is what they had to say:

    Ladies:

t was either Matt, or Chris, I don't remember. I do remember that it was realloppy. I'm not sure where it was either, but I was in the eight grade and Iemember feeling older than I was.was 14 and his name was Fabrice. It was in France, close to my house.

don't really remember it! I think when I was 13 at a party in USA when wewere playing truth or dare.Hmmmmm. First kiss?? Oh yeah! In tenth grade, with my boyfriend, we'd bee

ating for five years then. So that's a good time to kiss someone. Not if youon't know them (This was pointedly at the middle schoolers running

rantically through the room during our interview).

t's so long ago, I don't remember it! It probably blew me away at the time, bu

here have been much better ones ever since.

was 8 and he was 12, and we were in a cubby house. I don't remember hisame. It wasn't very romantic, but it was very enjoyable!

was around 10 or 11. He was very blond and white, and had blue eyes. Weoth ran out of class with an excuse, and we sat on a bench outside, everything

was very beautiful. The kiss was very wet. I never saw him again!

    Gentlemen:

Was when I was 14 years old, I was in summer camp, and I met this girl namedSheri. She was this very cute little blonde girl, and I was very keen on her. Wedecided to take a walk around the campgrounds, and we sat on the concrete pingpong table, and thats when I had my first kiss! And No She didnt dump me thenext day!

I dont remember. I wish I could remember but I cant. Thats really sad, that I canremember!

Julie Hearn in 1985, at her house. Thats all you need to know.

I was in fourth grade, and her name was Deirdre. We kissed behind the church ne

the school. I can't say the country, otherwise everyone will know it's me!

Give me a few minutes to think about this.... Wait, which one was the first one??Why are you doing this to me? I was 10 and we were on the beach under an arch what's that thing called? Anyways, I'll remember the name soon enough. So yeah, was fast and embarassing. I must admit though, it was awkward but successful!

Tell me the questions, and then I'll see if I want to answer them. I was in fourth

grade, and her name was Jennifer. It happened in the playground during recess. Shpulled me under the monkey bars and she laid one on me. It was both invigoratingand frightening at the same time!

Don't remember.... Trying to remember.... I don't know the name of the girl, nordid I know her. I must have been 13. It was not nice. It was actually kind of....boring. It was in a park, and I didn't want to stop because I thought the girl wouldbe hurt, she was probably thinking the same thing! So we just stayed there for a few

minutes. It was her first time too! Needless to say, we knew what we were doing, bwe certainly didn't know how to do it right! My second kiss was much morememorable, however! She was called Lilian, I was in tenth grade, and we were playing spin the bottle.

I won a pink floyd badge at a youth club disco. I was about 11. She just grabbed mand wouldn't let go! But I won the badge, so I guess it was worth it.
