No experience with mainframes is necessaryPart 1: Breaking the ice - Designed to get students comfortable with navigating the mainframe user interface, as well as to introduce them to some basic mainframe concepts
Part 2: Practical experience - Using the skills they learned in Part 1, students perform some more extensive systems programmer-type tasks.
Part 3: Real world challenge - Requires extensive work from the student and the tasks are taken from real-life situations encountered by experienced systems programmers.
Mainframe Contest in the UK40+ Individual UniversitiesMore than 720 UK students registered with the highest number of entrants coming from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Manchester, Kent, Leeds, Portsmouth and Sheffield all fielded high numbersThe winning three places went to students from Leeds, Edinburgh and Oxford. These three winners where invited to Hursley in April 2007 to spend time finding out what mainframes can really do.
