1. Briefing on the Huong river basin Total area of the Huong basin is 2830km2, representing 56% of the total area of the Thua Thien Hue province. The river forms a central part of the economic and social development of the province , with many people depending on it for their livelihood.. With the area 22,000 ha, the Tam Giang-Cau Hai Lagoon is recognized as a particularly valuable asset and an important part of the life of its many users. The main issues associated with the Huong River Basi are flooding in the rainy season and saline water intrusion in the dry season.
Hydro-Meteorological Observation system 10 rain gauge stations and 6 water level measurement stations, some of local stations. In flood season available 6-hourly rainfall
and water level data from these stations, report 4 times/day. In flood situation: 1-hourly data from these stations.. There is no water quality observation at these stations.
Hydro-Meteorological Network in Thua Thien Hue Province
Runoff in flood season from October to December consists of 70 – 75% total annual runoff, while
dry season lasting 9 months, including the period of early small floods in May – June, has only 25 – 30% total annual runoff

At the present, to response to flooding and saline water intrusion, number of control structures has been constructed as reservoirs like Co Bi, Ta Luong, Truoi, Ta Trach, Huu Trach, A Luoi as
well as barriers to prevent saline water intrusion, the most notable of which is the Thao Long Barrage. These structures strongly have change hydrological regime of the Huong river basin.

At Kim Long Station – Huong River (Sour: University of Tokyo)
Other activities of the Huong River Basin Demonstration Project + Joint Vietnam-Japan Workshops on Sustainable Water Management in Hue city, Vietnam, March 9-10, 2009 and in Tokyo, 2012 + Finished data uploading, verified for period from 2004 to 2010 + Simulated hydrograph for period Oct. 9 – Nov.5, 2008 and forecasted hydrograph for period Aug. 21 – Sep.5, 2009 using distributed model GBHM (Geomorphology-based Hydrological Model – University of Tokyo) and High Resolution Model (HRM, Vietnam): - Made some modification of GBHM in sources code for running from month to month, read HRM forecasted rainfall input file in ASCII format. + Improvement of warning flood forecasting system for the Huong river using DHM with satellite data and numerical weather forecasts, including reservoir operations.
