We still go hunting all the time. Does that statement shock you? You probably think that I am talking about the hunt for attention in all aspects. No, I mean the search for food to survive kind of hunt. Every time we go to the store or the farmers market we choose the food that is most appealing to our eyes. That is because humans have depended on their senses to assess food state for hundreds of thousands of years. We still do. Just think of all appealing aromas like flowers in the garden or some of the bad ones like burned food in a dirty oven. All smells tell us that something is either good or bad for us. The eyes are our second sense of five that guides us through life. Seeing a mould and dirt on anything makes creates an urge to stay away. We can determine if the product is eatable just by looking and smelling it. But what if we can‛t see the part of the food that is harmful? How can we protect ourselves then?

There are few basic things you can do to have healthy GMO-free food on the table: 1. Follow the advice of someone with a better sense of smell and taste than you. In other words, if your pet doesn‛t eat the food, then you shouldn‛t eat it either. You may object here that your dog will never eat a watermelon, but you are wrong. Animals like everything that you do raw or cooked alike. The difference is that they smell what is good for them.

2. Visit the farmer‛s market. The fruits and the vegetables offered there are grown by the healthiest ways possible. This is done because the farmers have a limited amount of land they intend to use for many years and even generations. They simply can‛t afford to spoil the soil with chemicals.

3. Free animals meat should be the only one you must have on your plate. The higher quality means that you will eat smaller portions and be healthier. The side effects that no one mention when cooking non GMO free meat is that the burnt fat layers on your oven. This way every time you cook the grime evaporates and sticks to your food. Cleaning your cooker and cookware regularly will protect you and keep your food fresh and tasty.

4. Buy from organic stores and restaurants. There is nothing wrong with trying gluten free bread for your healthy dinner ideas. Here is a short story I witnessed with my own eyes. A friend of mine gave her boyfriend full grain bread sandwich and he ate it without question. He was watching the game at the time and probably wouldn‛t notice if he was eating a brick. Still, she celebrated her success in feeding him something he never wanted to try. A few days later he asked her to buy another organic sandwich for him. My friend was so shocked by his request that she almost missed the chair while sitting. Small victories, girls, small victories every day.

5. Learn how to make the difference between organic and non-organic foods. You can find online countless ways to spot the differences. The most basic thing is to read the label on the product. If it doesn‛t say 100% organic, then it is better to skip.

6. Eating larger amount of raw and fresh food like nuts, fruit and veggies will improve your health. The extra benefit is the lower need to clean cooking appliances. Anyone can use that extra time for something way more fun.
