Keyboard PCB Considerations

• The keyboard keys need to be placed in a layout similar to a standard keyboard

• Trace sizes minimized because of compactness of layout, and placed far from cutouts to avoid damage when cutting slots for keys on PCB

• Size of vias/drill holes minimized

Microcontroller Considerations

• Placed at a central location to minimize trace lengths

• Small resistors placed in series with microcontroller programmer lines to provide protection from ESD

• No analog signals, just digital control and communication signals

• Decoupling capacitors placed as close as possible to VDD and GND pins

Power Supply Considerations• Power supply components placed as close

together as possible and separate from digital control/communication components/traces

• Ground traces between voltage sources and voltage regulators as short as possible to minimize common impedance

• Keyboard connector carries power to Keyboard PCB, so placed close to power supply components

• Bypass capacitors placed as close to regulators as possible
