ers today to talk about the upcom-ing season of the Texas Rangers. He turned the program over to Eric Nadel to serve as emcee. He said his job has gotten easier as the Rangers have gotten better. To il-

lustrate how unpredictable baseball is, he said that Gaylord Perryʼs manager said that a man would walk on the moon before Gaylord hit a home run, and he did, a few hours after Apollo touched down on the moon. Eric Nadel said the person who helped him the most when he started with the Rangers in 1979 was catcher Jim Sundberg. Jim won six consecutive gold gloves and holds the record for catching in the most games in one year, 155. He is now the Executive VP of the Rangers. He said he caught Gaylord Perryʼs pitches for several years, and he never admitted that he threw spitballs, but he investigated and knew he did. The ownership has committed to improving the stadium every year to improve the fanʼs experience. The center field area has been reworked with some of the seats removed in order to move the bullpen, and there are sev-eral new clubs and refreshment kiosks. They give a Jim Sundberg Community Service Award every year, in recognition of his many years of community service with the team. He then introduced pitching coach Mike Maddux. He said that everyone wants to know every-thing about the new pitcher Yu Darvish, espe-cially the Japanese media. He said that Yu has many good pitches and has good compo-sure; he is looking forward to having him on the team. All eyes will be on him no matter when or where he pitches.

THOUGHTS ON . .

AdvertisingAdvertising may be described as the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it.

~ Stephen LeacockChess is as elaborate a waste of human intelligence as you can find outside an advertising agen-cy. ~ Raymond Chandler The very first law in advertising is to avoid the concrete promise and cultivate the delightfully vague. ~ Bill CosbyMany a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising. ~ Mark Twain Half the money I spend on ad-vertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half.

"What is a Grandparent?"(According to a class of 8-year olds)• Grandparents don't have to do anything ex-cept be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.• They don't say "hurry up".

• When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

• The show us and talk to us about the colors of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on "cracks".

• When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Is It a Bird? Is It a Plane? No, Itʼs Moody Alexander!Excerpted from NeighborsGo article by Kirk Dooley, 1-27-2012.

“If you thought that good orthodontists just fell out of the sky, you are partially right.   “On Saturday, January 14, Dr. Moody Alex-

ander celebrated his 80th birthday by jumping out of an airplane over San Marcos, Texas. His wife, Freddie, made sure he wore a parachute.

Moody and his sons

“The birthday celebration was spon-sored by Dr. Alexanderʼs three chil-dren and his nine grandchildren. The entire family knew this would be the ideal way for Dr. Alexander to turn 80 because they all know heʼs got the right stuff.”
