Ready or Not . . .The World is Different

• Work is different ...

• Tools are different ...

• Communication is different ...

"Knowing content" is not sufficient in itself --

rather, students must apply

knowledge to:

• construct new understandings,

• solve problems

•  make decisions

• develop products and

• communicate

Technology can facilitate this type of learning

Page 12: The How-To Workshop for New Technologies Ben Smith and Jared Mader Red Lion Area School District Sunday, February 10, 2008.

Our Vision

Students will use technology seamlessly as a regular part of their educationEach student will come to class with their own computing deviceAll of the computing devices will be interconnectedTeachers and Students will have the skills necessary to appropriately use the Hardware and Software

Page 13: The How-To Workshop for New Technologies Ben Smith and Jared Mader Red Lion Area School District Sunday, February 10, 2008.

Our Reality

Labs within our rooms - 2-3 students per computer

CFF Cohort 2 School - 1 to 1 in my classroom

Students arrive with intuitiveness, but not the specific skills to use the technology - We need to teach the skills first or in conjunction with the curriculumStudents may or may not have access to the internet and other software at home

Page 14: The How-To Workshop for New Technologies Ben Smith and Jared Mader Red Lion Area School District Sunday, February 10, 2008.

Pedagogical Foundations

Curriculum must drive the need for technology integration

Technology is simply the tool used to facilitate student-centered learningTechnology makes it easier to accomplish
