The Horseshoe News By the students, for the students

    Visitor from Jamestown!

    Second grade had a wonderful

time when a docent from Jame-

stown came to tell stories and

    share artifacts. She spoke

    about the settlers and Native

    Americans of 400 years ago.

    How exciting!

    Author Visits!

Kalli Dakos, author and poet, gave quite a

presentation! Students said she was funny

and entertaining and made them want to write

Joke of the Month By: Antonio LaBarbera

A boy walks out of his room with nails, wood, and a hammer. His mom asked what was he doing.

The boy said “You told me to make my bed!”

    Bizarre Laws! By Toni Ruley

In Detroit, Michigan, it is against the law to sleep in a bathtub!

In Arkansas, it is illegal to buy or sell blue light bulbs!

In Maryland, eating while swimming in the ocean is illegal!

In Waterville, Maine, it is against the law to blow your nose in public!

Things I look for in a book:

    Will it be interesting?

Is it part of a series?

    A Series of Unfortunate Events

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny lead miserable lives. Af-

ter they hear that their parents were killed in a

fire, they must live with a relative, “Count Olaf”.

But is he really a relative?

The Bad Beginning is the first of 13 books in this

series of “unfortunate events”. Each book has a

    different adventure inside. Recommended for

    3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.

    Manners Matter

    By Toni Ruley

While I was doing patrols, I held the door in the 1st and 2nd

grade hall. I said, “Hi, have a great day” or “Good morning” to eve-

ry student. Only 13 students greeted me back. Isn’t that sad?

We need to use our manners!
