A group established to recognize colleagues’ academic and/or professional achievements

Mission of the Honor Society
The honor society’s mission is to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. We support the learning and professional development of our members, who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.

History of Sigma Theta Tau International
• Began in 1922 by six nursing students
• More than 400,000 nurses have been inducted
• 134,000 active members
• Members live in more than 100 countries

Membership Qualifications
• Baccalaureate/Equivalent Students– Completed ½ of the curriculum– Demonstrate excellence in academic work– Rank in the upper 35% of the class
• Master’s and Doctoral Students– Complete ¼ of the curriculum– Demonstrate excellence in
academic work

Membership Qualifications
• Nurse leaders– Have a baccalaureate or the equivalent
degree– Be a registered nurse, legally recognized
to practice in her/his country of residence– Demonstrate achievement in nursing
