Wauseon Lady Indians Blank Deance 8-0
By: Bill BrayTHE REPORTER
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, theWauseon Lady Indians soccer team came
out as hot as the weather and quickly dis-posed of the Deance Lady Bulldogs 8-0.
The scoring rampage got started whenKatee Roberts sailed the ball over the De-
ance Keeper's head at the 34:42 mark.
Roberts followed that goal just seconds
later, 19 to be exact, as she caught the
Keeper out of the box for an easy goal.
Just over two minutes later with 32:01
remaining in the rst half, Marin Schaff-
ner smacked a long kick from beyond the18 again going between the Keeper's head
and the top of the net for Wauseon's third
goal.
Just over 30 seconds later Lydia
Schmucker, from her wing position, added
to Wauseon's lead. Morgan Murry then
got an assist from Schaffner to make it a
5-0 advantage at the 20:48.
Another long kick from Schaffner, trick-
led by the Keeper again at the 15:51. The
nal Indians goal of the half came from
Stephanie Whitman with 3:35 left and the
Tribe had built an insurmountable lead.
The nal goal of the game came from
Sara Rufenacht with 20:14 remaining. She
was assisted by Roberts.
Wauseon nished with 18 shots on goal
and 13 shots on target.
"This game was a good opportunity tobuild up some condence offensively and
involve multiple people," coach Kelsey
Newman said. "We committed to coming
out and playing with intensity from the
rst whistle and that showed when we
were able to get some early goals. Katee
Roberts and Marin Schaffner had a par-
ticularly good game, each with two goals
and an assist."
The Indians return to action Thursday
when they travel to Bryan to take on the
Lady Golden Bears.

Wauseon Lady Indians Get Into The WinColumn With Shutout Of Miller City
WAUSEON - After their opening loss
to Continental, Wauseon Head Coach
Kelsey Newman said, I think once we
tweak a few things we can look forward
to a strong, competitive season.
Miller City came to town on August
20 to test the tweaks, and much totheir chagrin found them to be in good
working order. Senior goalkeeper Katie
Spieles posted a shutout with 6 saves,
and the Lady Indians found the back of
the net five times in a 5-0 mashing of
Miller City.
The Indians goals were tallied by
junior Natalie Koenig, senior Morgan
Murry, senior Katee Roberts, juniorLydia Schmucker and senior Marin
Schaffner.

Wauseon Indians ComebackEffort Fall Short at Delta
By: Bill Bray
THE REPORTERThe Wauseon Indians were hoping to
get off on the right foot in their first ever
NWOAL league race that started in Delta. But the Panthers had different plans as
they defeated the Indians 4-3.The Panthers wasted little time in dig-
ging the Indians into a hole with threequick goals in the first half of the game. It
was Wauseons job for the rest of the
rainy, wet match to try to come back from
three goals down to win.
Leo Rendon provided the spark for theTribe as the high flying junior scored all ofWauseons goals. After the Panthers had
built a 4-1 lead, Rendon tried to carry thegame on his shoulders by scoring two sec-
ond half goals. His final net finder came
with 7:30 left in the contest, but time ranout on the Tribe after that and they now
stand 0-1 in the inaugural league race.

North Central Golfers Down StrykerIn August 20th BBC Opener
BRYAN Although the scheduleshowed August 20th was the first Buckeye
Border Conference golf match of the sea-
son, the atmosphere and crowd present at
the contest between North Central andStryker was reminiscent of an OHSAAtournament event. Uncharacteristic of a
high school golf match, a crowd of morethan 20 spectators were in tow behind the
first foursome of the day. When the final
quartet of golfers arrived at the clubhouseand the scores were totaled, North Central
took a huge step in defense of their 2012league title as they downed Stryker 166 to
177.
Branden Turners round of 39 wasgood enough to claim Medalist honors,
while teammate Dylan Hutchison was just
one stroke back with a 40. Jordan Reeves

Mother Nature Fails To Put A DamperOn Montpelier Meet The Teams Night
By: Timothy KaysTHE REPORTER
Mother Nature threw everything butthe kitchen sink at the Montpelier
Locomotive faithful on August 22. Despite
the torrential downpours prior to theevent, the light rain during the event and
the slightly diminished audience, nothingwas going to put a damper on the
Montpelier Meet the Teams Night at HobeKrouse Field.
Beginning with the volleyball teams,
each team marched down the track infront of the grandstands on the east side
of the field. Each team was introduced tothe audience, member by member and
coach by coach. The MontpelierLocomotives Marching Band followed the
volleyball teams, with the cross country, cheerleading and football teams roundingout the evening.
The only team not present for the eventwas the Montpelier Golf squad, but they
had good reason for their absence. TheirNWOAL season opener against Liberty
Center was the one thing that Mother
Nature was successful in wreaking havocon the day. Match play was delayed until
the storms passed. While they werereturning to the links, the Meet the Teams
Night was well underway without them. The sacrifice did not go unnoticed though,
as each team member was announced, in
absentia, to the audience.
