The “Holy Week” Rytuals in Taranto
have roots deep into the spirit of people.
HOLY WEEK RITES of TARANTO
“Holy Week” begins the Sunday
before Easter, called Palm Sunday,
in memory of Jesus’s entrance into
Jerusalem.
On this day, families, friends
exchange small olive branches
or palm as symbols of peace.

In the afternoon of Holy
Thursday, members of the
Confraternity of the
Congregation of Mount
Carmel leave their church and
begin the ritual of the
pilgrimage of the Sepulchres.

They are called “Perdune” and
symbolize the “frates penitentiae”
and they are wearing the
particulary tunic and a hood with
two small eye-holes.

At midnight the Procession of Our Lady
of Sorrow, called “ l’Addolorata”, begins
from the Church of San Domenico in the
Old City.

A few hours later, in the Good Friday afternoon, the
Procession of the “ Mysteries” starts from the Church
of Mount Carmel.

The procession goes through
the city in an atmosphere of
great emotion and returns long
after nightfall.

The next day is a day of sadness and meditation until
midnight when, after a religious ceremony, the bells
are again rung after their days of silence, announcing
that Christ has risen.

Pasqua ortodossa 2013: 5 maggio La data della Pasqua ortodossa non coincide con quella della Pasqua cattolica, poiché la chiesa ortodossa segue il calendario giuliano e non quello gregoriano, anche se a volte le due festività cadono nello stesso giorno. La Pasqua ortodossa cade la domenica che segue la prima luna nuova dall'equinozio di primavera. Per la chiesa ortodossa è la festa più importante, che si trascorre in famiglia e con gli amici, mentre durante l'intera settimana santa si hanno celebrazioni speciali. In Grecia il Sabato Santo si tiene la processione, poi la messa di mezzanotte, durante la quale il sacerdote (pope) bussa tre volte alla porta maggiore della chiesa e annuncia la resurrezione di Cristo. Si canta un inno alla resurrezione e si lanciano foglie d'alloro. I fedeli tengono in mano delle candele che devono portare accese fino a casa.
La domenica di Pasqua si celebra con un pranzo in famiglia in uno spazio verde, in giardino o in un prato, si mangia l'agnello alla barbecue e si festeggia con canti e balli. In Grecia è usanza mangiare le uova dipinte di rosso, dopo averle battute con l'uovo del vicino e aver pronunciato delle frasi rituali senza che l'uovo si rompa.

In Grecia è usanza mangiare le uova dipinte di rosso,dopo
averle battute con l’uovo del vicino e aver pronunciato delle frasi rituali senza che l’uovo si rompa,
ο ιερέας στην πόρτα της εκκλησίας με ένα μεγάλο
αναμμένο κερί με το Άγιο Φως από την Ιερουσαλήμ και intones την επίσημη ύμνος του Πάσχα.
Il sacerdote si presenta alla porta della chiesa con un
grosso cero acceso con la Luce Santa di Gerusalemme e intona il solenne canto pasquale.
οι παραγγελίες από το εξωτερικό ιερέα: «ανοίξει τις
πόρτες» και ζητά από τον υπάλληλο, "Ποιος είσαι;" και ο ιερέας απαντώντας "ένα ισχυρό τζέντλεμαν" κλωτσάει την
πόρτα και έκρηξη στην εκκλησία κρατώντας το κερί.
Il sacerdote ordina dal di fuori:”Aprite le porte” e il
sacrestano chiede:”chi sei?”E il sacerdote rispondendo”un Signore Potente”dà un calcio alla porta e irrompe in chiesa
protendendo il cero.
