PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel,

centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit.

We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all.

FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY

On the Sunday during the Octave of Christmas we celebrate the Holy Family of Jesus,

Mary and Joseph. We seek to imitate this family, a family with the ideals spoken of in

St. Paul’s Letter to the Colossians 3:12, “Because you are God’s chosen ones, holy and

beloved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt mercy, with kindness, humility, meekness and

patience.” As the Holy Family faced rejection in Bethlehem, abandonment in Egypt

and misunderstanding in Nazareth, they persevered in hope, trusting in divine provi-

dence even in the darkest of nights. St. Paul continues in Col. 3:13-15, “Forgive as the

Lord has forgiven you. Over all these virtues put on love, which binds the rest together and makes them per-

fect. Christ’s peace must reign in your hearts...” Clearly, these are virtues that our families need today, virtues

that we should all desire. Let us pray through the intercession of Jesus, Mary and Joseph that we might not

only seek the Lord’s mercy but also be ambassadors of the mercy right here in our own community.

CHRISTMAS GRATITUDE

Thank you so much to all the staff and volunteers who made this such a blessed Christmas

here at Annunciation. So many worked so hard to make this a truly inspirational celebration

of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Father Ramos, Father Stephen and I want to thank

you for your kind wishes, gifts and prayers during this holy season. Be assure of our grateful

prayers and remembrance in Mass as we thank God for your love and support.

NEW YEAR’S MASSES

New Year’s Day is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God and the World Day of Prayer for Peace, a holy day

of obligation. The Masses will begin with a New Year’s Eve Anticipated Mass at 5:30 p.m. on Tues., Dec.

31st. On New Year’s Day, Wed., Jan. 1st there will be three Masses: 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Come and pray with Our Lady for blessings and peace for our world in the New Year 2014. Happy New

Year!

CHRISTMAS SEASON PRAYER

Light of lights! All gloom dispelling,

Thou didst come to make thy dwelling

Here within our world of sight.

Lord, in pity and in power,

Thou didst in our darkest hour

Rend the clouds and show thy light.

Praise to thee in earth and heaven

Now and evermore be given,

Christ, who art our sun and shield.

Lord, for us thy life thou gavest,

Those who trust in thee thou savest,

All thy mercy stands revealed. —St. Thomas Aquinas

PRAYER OF DISCIPLESHIP

Loving God, I thank you for choosing me to be your disciple and for the gift of

your Son, Jesus. Help me proclaim and bear witness to the Gospel by word

and by deed today and every day. Open my heart to the outcast, the forgot-

ten, the lonely, the sick, and the poor. Grant me the courage to think, to

choose, and to live as a Christian, joyfully obedient to God. (Adapted from the Homily

of Pope Francis, Basilica of Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls, Third Sunday of Easter, April 14, 2013)

Reflection: “Pondering them in her heart: We see no indication of how Mary perceived her son. All we know is

that she “kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). In this, she is a model for all of us, re-

flecting on the wonders that God accomplishes in our lives.” -Sr. Dianne Bergant,CSA

God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have

made manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great you sent your

Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives he brings joy and peace, justice,

mercy, and love.

Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble

birth of Jesus, and raise our thoughts to him, who is God-with-us and Savior of all, and who lives and reigns

forever and ever. Amen.
