• 1607- 1st British settlement in America• 1620 – the Puritans came on the Mayflower

and founded Plymouth colony in Massachussets

• 1621 - the immigrants celebrated their first harvest and thanked the God they had survived

18 th century

• 1773 – Boston Tea Party – a colonists´ protest against the British tax policy

• 1775 – 13 colonies started the war of independence

• 1776 – 4 July : The Declaration of independence was signed in Philadelphia

• 1783 – Britain recognised the USA• 1787 – the Constitution of the USA

19 th century

• 1861 – 1865: the civil war between the North and the South

• 1863 – slavery was abolished• 1865 – Abraham Lincoln assassinated• 1867 – they bought Alaska from Russia• 1886 – France gave them the Statue of Liberty

20 th century

• 1929 – Black Friday – the Great Depression started

• 1941 – Pearl Harbour - they entered WW II• 1950 – 1953: Korean war• 1964 – Civil Rights Act• 1965 -1973 : the war in Vietnam• 1969 – 1st man on the moon• 1974 – Watergate – Nixon resigned
