The Field Firing Match Classic Miniature-calibre Rifle Open Competition

Saturday 2nd. March 2013 at the Herts & Essex Range, Great Leighs, near Braintree

This Open competition for .22” rifles using classic targets. All versions of .22 rimfire may be used, plus such CF calibres as .297/230 and .310 Cadet. Shot in different classes, any action is eligible, manual or self-loading. Any sights are eligible – open, military, target, or optic - and will be shot in their class. We have made some minor amendments to classes, so please read the notes carefully. Get in touch if you have any questions. * Classes Vintage: Any pre-1919 design with open sights, e.g. Martini-Henry/Metford/Enfield & late conversions of M-H, and

Lee-Metford etc. SMLE’s, Mauser’s, Vicker’s, BSA Models 6-13 etc. Classic: Rifles designed up to 1919 with aperture rear-sights and post front sights. Veteran: e.g.: BSA 12/15, Enfield No.7’s, 8’s and 9’s up to 1946. Open or aperture rear-sights with post front sight. Post Veteran: Any single shot rifle, or if shot single loading rifle, designed up to 1960, with target sights, including BSA Martini Internationals Mks l, ll, lll Open: Any self-loading/semi-auto rifle with telescopic sights Optic: Any rifle fitted with optic sights or using bi-pod support. Self-loading/Semi-Auto: Any semi-auto with iron sights. Sporting: Any rifle using lever action, pump action or bolt action using the magazine. Sporting rifles may be used in other classes, subject to dateline, but a 3% handicap to score will be applied if the magazine is used.

Course of Fire and Instructions Depending on the numbers of entries the committee reserves the right to adjust classes on the day, prior to the commencement of shooting, e.g. combining Post Veteran with Open. This is an Individual competition and no team entries are available. The shoot will consist of one series comprised of one card with four target types, 30 scoring shots for each series/match. Any rifle (other than self-loading) fitted with optic sights or using bi-pod support may only enter the Optic class.Any Semi-auto rifle with optic sights may only enter the Open Class.Any rifle fitted with aperture front sights may only enter the Post Veteran class (depending on its dateline). Where fitted, target rear-sights must be of the correct period. A limited number of loan rifles will be available; see entry form. A series will consist of the following: - Prone 10 shots prone, rapid fire within 2 minutes at a ‘Tin Hat’ target (2 shots per bull). (Sand bag may be used; optic class only may use other support) Kneeling 10 shots kneeling, rapid fire within 2 minutes at a ‘Landscape’ target (2 shots per bull). (Available support may be used)

Standing 5 shots standing shot over a “Fire trench” parapet, Deliberate fire within 3 minutes at a ‘Figure 4A’ target (at least 1 shot per bull). (Sand bag may be used; Optic class only may use other support) Snaps 5 shots standing shot over a “Fire trench” parapet, Snap (5 second exposures with up to 8 seconds away) at a ‘1931 Snap’ target.; (5 shots on 3 bulls, a bonus awarded for hitting all 3 bulls) (Sand bag may be used; Optic class only may use other support) A series will now be shot just once in each match. The prone will be shot at 25 yards, all others will be shot at 25 metres. All shooting will be squadded. Shooting will commence at 09.00 a.m. Sighters: 5 minutes unlimited sighters, shot immediately prior to the scoring series. For each card the shooter will start with a loaded rifle; single loading only, no magazine loading (except in Self-loading or Sporting) unless a handicap will be applied. Slings may not be used. No gloves to be used. Remember spirit of the original. There will be an exhibition of historic pistols and arms. Let us know if you would like to exhibit. HESA and FFM2013 will be supporting the Help for Heroes charity, with a raffle and Help for Heroes items available. Please let us know if you have any raffle prizes you would like to donate. There is limited wheelchair access. Any person not being able to shoot in a particular position can take part and a handicap will be sorted on the day if considered necessary by the Committee. Entry fee £5.00 for first class entry, with reductions for additional classes.£1.00 addition, for shooters with Enfield’s (incl. Martini-Enfields) who’s score to count towards an additional LERA Field Fire Match medal; shot concurrently with the main class. £4.00 for those under 18 years of age on day of competition.
