Reflections: I am always impressed beyond belief when God‘s good - ness produces acts of kindness that make a difference in the world we live in. The task to feed 225 people who work the Stock Show but whose circum- stance in life keeps them from enjoying an evening dinner seemed insurmountable for any one individ- ual to undertake. Last year, First United Methodist Church, Univer- sity Christian Church, and First Presbyterian Church met the need. This year Tarrant Area Community of Churches took the challenge to put the call to all area churches to participate. I am so glad that you as a church responded to join other United Methodist Churches in the area in this humanitarian project. The day before our day to provide the sack lunches Arlington Heights UMC did it and the day after Smithfield UMC came through. All in all, each church that partici- pated was challenged with the need to respond. To accomplish the goal each church needed to raise about $600.00 to buy the food items. You as a congregation surely responded by contributing to the special collection and raising all the necessary funds and then provid- ing a little extra. Then there was the need for people to buy the items and Terry Meyer and Collette McFarland went to Sam’s and pur- chased the right amount. Now it was time to put the sacks together. David and Mary Clark, Debbie Hibscher, Judy Van Roosenbeek, and Elsa Gutierrez put their assembly skills together. In an hour all the bags were ready to be delivered! The next day, which was Thursday morning, the sack lunches were delivered to the Mission at First United Methodist Church. What a great mission project to have par- ticipated in! Let me invite you to pray so that we as a church can focus on ways of serving and caring for our community. We already do it in a variety of ways. New mission opportunities invite and involve more of our community to be in the ministry of Christian service. I look for- ward to seeing you in worship this coming Sunday. 7:00 p.m. In 2000, Xiao-Bo Chen-Nestler made her Carnegie Hall debut after winning a prize in the Frinna Awerbuch Competition in New York. She has also performed as a soloist with various Orches-

tras including the Fort Worth Orchestra. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reviewed that her per-

formance of the Beethoven Third Piano Concerto "presented both thunder and impetuosity."

Xiao-Bo Chen-Nestler was born into a musical family in Shanghai and graduated from the

prestigious High School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music with top honors. Piano competitions won

by Ms. Nestler include the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Spain, and Martin Memo-

rial Piano Competition at TCU, among others.

She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from University of North Texas

College of Music, the Performer’s Certificate and Artist Diploma from the Texas Christian Univer-

sity School of Music. Ms. Nestler has studied with Xiao Min and Lin Er-Yao at the Shanghai Conser-

vatory of Music, John Owings at Texas Christian University, and Pamela Mia Paul at the University

    Setting Goals For Youth

The youth set personal goals for the year a

few weeks back. We made homemade pizza to

make the point. The ingredients: pepperoni,

cheese, olives, onions, tomato sauce, etc, are all

the items needed to make a good pizza.

For people, to obtain your goal, you have to

prepare and have the right things in place (like

the ingredients) to achieve the end result of the

goal. In other words, you can't get there if you do

    not prepare.

After much discussion and munchy Pizza

Hut time, the youth enjoyed this illustration and

hopefully the goals that they set will be achieved.
