HILLSBORO
CHRISTIAN
Pick up a Bible reading plan Sunday. We have three different
plans that you can chose from; Book-at-a-time, The Discipleship
Journal (read from 4 separate places in the Bible daily), and
5X5X5 (5 minutes a day, 5 days a week and 5 ways to dig
deeper). Now is a great time to start.
It is not to late to join. A unique, short-term (8 week) group will meet on Sunday nights at 6:00 beginning January 5 in the Ministry House. Dallas Jenkins has created the first ever, crowd-funded, multi-season, multi-episode depiction of the life of Christ, The Chosen. Jenkins unfolds the life of Christ as seen through the eyes of the people He touched. His aim is to connect you with the real struggles and real emotions of real people in a way that retains the integrity of Scripture and will move your heart toward a deeper relationship with Jesus. If you are interest-ed, contact Jim Bush or Adam Steele.
Hillsboro Church of Christ:
First and foremost I wanted to take the time to thank you for
the tremendously generous display of kindness shown in
sending care packages. I lost count at the total amount my
platoon alone has received. With this being my fifth time
deployed; it seems to me to be the same old song and
dance, but it is still heart warming the love and patriotism
fellow Americans have while we are deployed. For a few of
us combat veterans here it is nice to see the thoughtful
gesture such as these care packages, to see the excitement
on some of the “first timers” faces to be able to open a box
and sort through the contents is very gratifying. For some
this is their first time being away from home for this long and
being away from home during these major holidays.
We most certainly put to good use the various items that
were placed into these boxes. The candy will, no doubt, be
the reason for more intense physical training (PT) in the
coming days. The board games, cards, puzzles and nerf
footballs are always a welcomed source of entertainment.
The hygiene products, given the intense desert heat, are a
If you will recall in November of this year we sent care packages to men and women in the armed forces, in particular, the
platoon of Mark and Thaddeus Conover (who are members here). This was a dream of Thaddeus’ wife Heather. She had a
vision of adopting 5 or so soldiers and sending a care package to them for Christmas. This dream grew into asking the
congregation to participate. By the time we were ready to pack the boxes and ship them out, we had over 60 boxes to ship!!
The following is a letter we received from one of the recipients, Sergeant William Rudy.
necessity. The rodent control devices such as mouse traps,
fly paper and sticky traps; though I am sure will eventually be
used for their intended purposes, were initially used for, quite
embarrassingly enough, hours of mischief and prank
entertainment. I will let the nerf guns speak for themselves.
Lastly, the wonderful messages of love and encouragement
that were taped along the sides in the cards. Thank you so
much for the love that went into putting together these care
packages.
In the Army, we come from many different backgrounds,
being a native Pennsylvanian myself, where active duty
Army had me stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and
now being deployed with the Ohio National Guard; I can rest
assured knowing that I have brothers and sisters like you all
and that I am amongst family at any corner of the world the
government decides to send me to. I can’t say enough,
THANK YOU!
Love,
SGT William R. Rudy
