The High Call of Pasto rs  1 Timothy 4:1-16 I. Silencing False Teachers (v1-5) Not everything proposed as true and right are right and true. There is spirituality that is not sound. The pastor is responsible to silence false teachers and warn the flock of their danger Dr John Master, PBU "Maintaining a biblical worldview is a lways a challenge. How tempted we are to view life from the perspective of our circumstances rather than through the lens of God's revelation!" v1 - just cause the source is spi ritual, doesn't mean its right! v2 - conscience is not the most trustworthy source (also Titus 1:15) v3 - they forbid marriage a nd forbid fo ods. They FORBID. God has enough standards, we don't need more But Go d didn't chime in on _________. I need a r ule. Legalism Eve was the first legalist. "Don't eat or even touch" God has given us all needed for life and godliness thru the Word (2 Pt 1:3) We all know pastors that take pleasure in ridiculing other churches I'm not saying this to ridicule them, but to make you strong and wise and godly We know churches who forbid marria ge. Catholics Is that really (v1) the doctrines of demons? "Maybe they're wrong, but demonic?" I'm not sa ying this, God is sayin g this. Yes. Lent is a great idea. Legislating it is demonic. Adding rules beyond God's rules is sinful and ugly. The church that does this will die. v4-5 - pray at meals. enjoy God's provision. thank G od for keeping you going

v1 - just cause the source is spiritual, doesn't mean its right!

v2 - conscience is not the most trustworthy source (also Titus 1:15)

v3 - they forbid marriage and forbid foods. They FORBID.

God has enough standards, we don't need more

But God didn't chime in on _________. I need a rule. LegalismEve was the first legalist. "Don't eat or even touch"

II. Pointing Out Sound Doctrine(v6-11) 

While the pastor needs to point out error and drive people to live by grace

v6- the pastor's job is to point things out

constantly nourished on the words of the faith and the sound doctrine

"theology is boring" - no, its life and direction and hope

Jesus loves me - Galatians 2:20

v7 - worldly fables (Titus 1:14) they aren't fit for old women.

v10 - God, the Savior of all men, especially of believers

not universalism. not "everyone goes to heaven"

God saves every corner of humanity "all races, all languages" Rev 5:9

"especially" isnt the best way to understand this word. "particularly" is better

v11 - Prescribe and teach thisprescribe - "alongside the proclamation" the Word and your explanation

teach - train, disciple, equip
