Bartow County Commissioner Clarence Brown made bringing more jobs to Bartow his

focus during Wednesday’s public meeting after he authorized a memorandum that,

with the collaboration of several local governments, will begin development as well as

incentives for the creation of a large sports and recreation complex in Emerson. The

1,380-acre development, known as LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center,

will house baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields as well as a building for basketball, vol-

leyball, wrestling and cheerleading. The development, said Brown, is estimated to bring

2,000 jobs to the area as well as estimated 3 million visitors annually and could be one

1,800 Jobs for KY

Ford Motor Co. is taking applications in Louisville, Ky., to add a second shift at the as-sembly plant that will make the new 2012 Ford Escape. But the number of new hires is still being determined as the automaker sorts out how many employees may transfer from other Ford plants, said spokeswoman Marcey Evans. Ford needs 1,800 workers to restore Louisville to a two-shift operation late this year. The offer to transfer is open to workers at any Ford plant, but the expectation is most will come from Kansas City or Chicago. That is because when Louisville cut back to a single shift, many workers moved to the Chicago Assembly Plant that added a shift in November. Some of those workers may want to return to Kentucky, Evans said. | Source:http://bit.ly/padOTm

4,000 Jobs for Japan

Toyota said it will hire 3,000 to 4,000 temporary workers in Japan to be ready for a recovery in vehicle production as automakers bounce back from the March 11 earth-quake and tsunami. Toyota Motor Corp. will start recruiting the factory workers in July, as production is now gradually recovering and expected to surge by October, com-pany spokesman Shigehiko Okamura said Tuesday. Production at Toyota and other Japanese automakers dived after the disaster because of a shortage of key parts from suppliers in the northeastern region devastated by the magnitude-9.0 quake. Auto manufacturing is expected to be back at pre-disaster levels in the latter half of the year. Toyota, which employs 69,000 people in Japan, now has about 950 temporary assem-bly line workers, after not renewing contracts that ran out after the disaster. Tempo-rary workers are on a different, more flexible contract from other employees to adjust to production fluxes and save costs. The practice is common at Japanese plants, al-though it has sometimes been criticized as unfair. | Source: http://bit.ly/nzk44x
