THE Harmons DISHMARCH 2016
AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, we con-ducted a companywide culture sur-vey last fall. Our goal is to always be the best at getting better and the best way to know how we are doing is to get feedback straight from you, our associates. Some areas we were told we could offer improvements were, ensuring competitive wages, addi-tional training for our managers and internal communication. The People Department and stores are working on initiatives for retention and en-gagement. A full wage review has been completed; cost of living rais-es plus any additional adjustments needed, will be in place this month. We are continually working on new and improved avenues for commu-nication with our Internal Marketing Manager and will expand Manager training and development this year. Your feedback is always appreciated.
Company growth is in full swing with the additions of our Santa Clara store that opened recently and our Tra-verse Mountain store, scheduled to open August 2016. This brings many new and exciting opportunities for our associates, including working
alongside new associates and current managers and specialists, who work very hard to support the opening of a new store. The passion and dedica-tion of these amazing people is criti-cal to the success of a store opening.
Any associate interested in transfer-ring to the Traverse Mountain store should keep an eye out for a transfer request. This announcement will be coming out in April. Please contact your PSM in April if you haven’t heard about a transfer opportunity. As for recruiting, we will have a hiring event this summer and many current associ-ates will have the opportunity to assist in training new team members as they are hired. We look forward to you wel-coming them to #TeamHarmons.
Nothing is possible without great people! I want to give a special thank you to Scott Lewis, Store Director at Santa Clara, for leading the team in such a calm, positive way and also to Frank Lundquist, VP of Store Devel-opment, for yet again, outdoing him-self on a beautiful store and success-ful completion of this big project. It is a pleasure to work with these two, and their teams. I also want to give a shout out to everyone involved in the hiring, training and opening of the Santa Clara store along with the rollout of the Foodie Club program. Neither has been a small task. I know we recognized many individuals for their assistance with this last month, but in particular I would like to high-light Shannon Evans. She deserves a special kudos for going above and beyond to care for training and com-munication materials. I could go on and on with individual thank you’s, but will just say I am very grateful and humbled by the remarkable people in this company – the amazing things that take place and the thousands of customers served each day… none of it is possible without you all!
Leadership SERVES UP

Harmons is committed to reducing our environmental impact through responsible business practices and working to create a more sustainable future. Please look for recycling op-portunities throughout the store and our community.
How much do Americans throw away? Americans represent 5% of the world’s population, but generate 30% of the world’s garbage.
• Americans throw away enough garbage every day to fill 63,000 garbage trucks, which if lined up end to end for an entire year would stretch half way to the moon.
• In a lifetime, the average Amer-ican will personally throw away 600 times his or her body weight, which for an average adult would leave a legacy of 90,000 pounds of trash at the end of their lifetime.
• Of the garbage Americans throw out, half could be recycled, which is enough to fill a football stadium from top to bottom every day.
• Of these recyclables, Americans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild the entire commercial air fleet every three months, enough steel to reconstruct Manhattan, and enough wood to heat 5 mil-lion homes for 200 years.
• U.S. waste disposal costs exceed $100 billion annually
• For the entire world to live as an American we would need two more Earths.

FIRST PLACE: Drawing among participants for five $50 gifts, plus an associ-ate luncheon
SECOND PLACE: Drawing among participants for five $25 gifts
THIRD PLACE: Drawing among participants for five $20 gifts
Not sold by the prizes? End-of-winter crummy weather got you feeling down? Why not participate in March Madness for your emotional and mental well-be-ing! While many of us are aware that exercise benefits our body, it has been shown to be good for our mental health. An immediate mood enhancing ef-fect of exercise is the release of endorphins. Exercise also seems to have long term effects on our mood. Regular exercisers have lower rates of depression than non-exercisers, and exercise has also been shown to improve the mood of individuals with clinical depression.
