Outstanding placement opportunitiesThe graduate job market is hugely competitive, so having first-hand practical work experience can really help you stand out from the crowd. This is why we offer students on our undergraduate degrees in chemistry the option to spend a year in industry – applying knowledge to real-world problems in a role with real responsibilities.

A year in industry, learning through practical experience and gaining an insight into the role of a chemist, is exceptionally valuable and, in some instances, has led to firm offer of employment from the placement provider. Although the responsibility for finding a placement is yours we provide support through the University’s Careers Network, large-scale campus career and placement fairs, and our own School of Science placement fair with major employers invited on to campus specifically to meet our students.

Successful completion of the placement also leads to the award of an additional diploma in Industrial, or Professional, Studies.

Here are just a few of the exciting organisations at which our placement students have spent their placement year:• 3M Healthcare• Pfizer UK• Kings College Hospital• GlaxoSmithKline• BioFocus• Nemaura Pharma• Reckitt Benckiser

Summer studentshipsThe department also offers a number of summer studentships – a great chance to gain experience by working within our leading research groups.

“My qualification from Loughborough gave my career a head start due to the modules I studied such as physical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and maths for chemists. I’m the only member in my team with a non-engineering based background, giving me a unique perspective on the work we do.”
