History of Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Committee The Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance committee organizes and plans the annual Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Conference (GLHRC), which has traditionally been held in late March or early April. In 2011, the conference date was moved to November. The conference has been held in various places around West Lafayette, including Purdue University and the Hillel Foundation (GLHRC.org), from as early as 1982. It has lasted from one to seven days, with multiple lecture, workshop, and discussion sessions, a film, and a meal comprising the events of the conference. Each conference has a different theme that is related to the Holocaust; most reference the Holocaust explicitly. Relevant issues of contemporary interest are also selected as topics of sessions. In 2007 several sessions were dedicated to examining the Darfur conflict. Speakers who lecture or lead discussions come from a variety of backgrounds, including local residents to international academics. Several speakers have been Holocaust survivors. In recent years, the conference has offered a special session for educators as well. Although sponsored by the GLHRC, the conference is also supported by cooperation with many area organizations, religious groups, and university departments (GLHRC.org).
