What will be ready to harvest next week? The cool, wet weather is making us wonder.

Maybe one of the watermelon varieties, spinach, Napa cabbage, garlic, Cipollini onions, tomatillos…?

A letter from your CSA farmers

Cheery greetings to you all!

You know the old saying, “be careful what you wish for”? After all that dry weather, we’ve now had over 8” of rain in the last week! Our fields are VERY muddy, making it near impossible for the horse teams to go through, and very difficult for humans to muck around too! We’ll be trying our best to send you clean, dry vegetables! In the long run, it will be good to have extra moisture in the soil as we prepare for winter. Hard to believe that it’s already time to start thinking of that white season.

The big news on our farm is that we have a new baby girl! Rebecca was born on Sunday. It was an “emergency” arrival– she came into the world very fast. So fast we didn’t have time to leave the farm. So, dad did the delivery! I am happy to report that mom and baby are both doing fine– and I’m doing fine too! It was really something- a very special experience nobody in our household will ever forget. We all are very excited. Our oldest daughter is especially thrilled to have a new baby sister that she’ll get to help take of.

Thank you for your support of our farms. We were happy to get the email notes Liz brought from lots of you. We liked the sentiment someone wrote: “We’re in this together as unique partners– each doing what we can for healthy food and a healthy environment.” We agree. Have a good week!

“She’s always a

happy cluck, and

likes to be out

with her chicks”
