the Bagpiper the Bagpiper ROBROY INDUSTRIES VOL. 47; NO.1 SPRING 2017 Family Forum 1 HEADQUARTERS A s I write this cover article for the Bagpiper, the stock market is surging to a record 21000 for the first time. Even though the stock market is volatile, the steady gains over the last several months signal a positive outlook for the U.S. economy. With the recent uptick in the oil, gas, mining and construction markets, along with the constant chatter in Washington D.C. about less regulation and more infrastructure spending, I am cautiously optimistic that market conditions for Robroy Industries will improve in 2017. The primary goal for the balance of 2017 and beyond will be to increase top line sales. It is essential that we support our current customer base and proactively go after and secure new business. This will be accomplished by listening to our customers and striving to provide an out- standing customer experience. In 2017 we will continue to place emphasis on building up our sales organizations. In addition to hiring highly qualified associates to the sales team, we are investing in a state of the art CRM system (Customer Relationship Management), which will assist us in storing and managing prospects and customer information in one central location. As a result we will be better equipped to increase leads, close more deals and, most importantly, drive customer loyalty and satisfaction. As we move forward in 2017, it’s the people who will ultimately determine our success. I want to personally thank all Robroy Associates for your dedication and support. Wishing you and your families the very best. Jeff McIlroy Chairman I n May 2016, Robroy Industries’ Headquarters Associates held a sur- prise luncheon in celebration of Mike Deane’s 35th anniversary at Robroy Industries. As a part of that event, Rob and Jeff McIlroy presented Mike with an enrollment into the 2017 Pittsburgh Pirate Fantasy Camp in Bradenton, Florida. This past January, the fantasy became a reality. Mike got to spend a week in Florida actually playing baseball on the very fields that the Pittsburgh Pirates train and play on during spring training. Adding to the “Field of Dreams” atmosphere, Mike’s two sons, Steve (Hartford, CT) and Josh (Houston, TX) not only joined him, but were teammates! There were eight teams in all, each coached by two retired Pittsburgh Pirate players. The Deanes (as they became known) were coached by John Candelaria and Tom Prince. Team Wagner, named after Honus Wagner-a famous Pirate from the early 20th century, got off to a rough start. The first two games were losses by margins too big to mention. But they turned it around and won three of the next five, actu- ally missing the playoffs by one run. As Mike’s legs gave out by midweek, Steve and Josh became his pinch runners. Steve and Josh added time- ly hitting to Team Wagner, while Mike made contributions in the field at first base. But baseball aside, the cama- raderie among all of Team Wagner and the memories of spending a week with his sons made this a spe- cial time for Mike. For the past three years CorrosionCollege has sent Christmas cheer

Nichole Loritsch, StaffAccountant for the Conduit Division inAvinger (and corporate AccountsReceivable), noticed increased spendingon waste disposal for the Avinger Plant. She took action to interview alternativevendors. After she got a consensusfrom the management at her location, she recommended a new vendor thatwill result in savings of approximately$6,000 in 2017 and another $20,000over the next two years. In the United States we celebrate several special days during the year thathonor Americans who serve or have served in the US military. One of

those days is Veterans Day, officially observed on November 11th. This obser-vance, originally called Armistice Day, marked the end of the major hostilities ofWorld War I - the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. The daywas renamed Veterans Day in 1954. This holiday should not be confused withMemorial Day, the last Monday of May. Veterans Day celebrates the service ofall US military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while serv-ing their country in military service. There are more than 23 million veterans inthe United States.

You can find literally 100 or more ways to honor veterans. Organizationsalways look for volunteers to help disabled veterans or those who may just bedown on their luck. The Internet provides many ideas for those interested inlending a hand with their time or treasure.

At the very least, everyone can thank a veteran for his service. The RobroyConduit Division took time on November 11, 2016 to recognize the veterans cur-rently employed by the Company and to express grateful appreciation and manythanks to each veteran for their time and sacrifice to our country.

Thank you for your service, Robroy Veterans.

Veterans Day

The Avinger Potluck Thanksgiving meal had a wide variety of choices.

No one left hungry that day!

Choices did abound at the Gilmer location, as well.

The food was plentiful and delicious.

White Elephant gifts sat in front of a “roaring fire” waiting patiently to be opened, shared and swapped.

Gilmer location combined food and funwith a White Elephant gift exchange. What is that, you might ask? A numberis assigned to each person and innumeric order you are permitted tochoose a gift or take one from some-one who has already opened a present.Apparently, a case of beer and a bottleof liquor were stolen numerous times.

Wait a minute! The definition of aWhite Elephant is “a possession that isuseless or troublesome, especially onethat is expensive to maintain or difficultto dispose of.” Beer and liquor are twoitems that don’t seem to meet those cri-teria. At any rate, it made the game a lotof fun and generated ruckus laughter.

Duoline Technologies Associatestook the ugly sweater contest

seriously this year. SERIOUSLY! Eachugly sweater was uglier than the nextugly sweater, which made choosingthe ugly sweater winner an uglyproposition.

cake). Joe Farmer and Judith Espinozarecently celebrated their birthdays withcolleagues. Joe turned 26 and Judithcelebrated her birthday on January18th. We think Judith was 29 on herbirthday…again!

The Farminator

Joe Farmer, Duoline Plant Manager, recently could be found running casing ona drilling rig in New Mexico for one of the Company’s newest and largest rev-

enue customers. As Joe tells it, it was a very interesting and enlightening experi-ence.

The Farminator, as he has come to be known, ran the night shift after “battlingwith the rats all day over who got to eat the last gas station burrito in the fridge.”He claims he left the rig floor the next morning with a prison or jail style tattoo*that stated “oilfield trash making oilfield cash.” He also picked up the bad habits ofchain-smoking while chewing tobacco and drinking Wild Turkey with his coffee.

Sounds like a rough one, Joe.

* Making a jail (prison) tattoo is usually doneusing a homemade ink mixture applied by ahandmade rotary tattoo machine or simply asingle needle poked into the skin repeatedly.
