A new high speed system There is not enough capacity on the Swedish railway and an expansion of the railway network is needed. To meet the need, the Swedish Transport Administration is planning to build double-track high speed railway with new main lines between Stockholm–Gothenburg and Stockholm–Malmö. The new main lines consists of several different strecthes where three of them are ongoing projects: The Gothenburg–Borås project, The East Link Project between Järna and Linköping and The Hässleholm–Lund project. The new main lines will increase the overall capacity significantly, both nationally and regionally, and enable more sustainable transports for both people and goods. The Gothenburg-Borås project Gothenburg–Borås is a 60 km long double-track high speed railway with the planned top speed of 250 km per hour. Running inbetween the two largest cities on the westcoast it’s a key of connecting Gothenburg to Stock- holm, and an important step in the building of a com- pletely new main line designated for passenger traffic. When the whole main line is completed, you’ll be able to travel between Stockholm and Gothenburg in around two hours as opposed to todays three hours. The new railway will also connect at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.
