Ugandan Kids Choir is coming to Our Savior’s!

April 16-19, 2015

Our congregation is once again hosting the Ugandan Kids Choir in the month of April. This will be the forth visit of this energetic group of young dancers and singers from Uganda. They share faith, stories and art as they rejoice in God’s goodness even in the most difficult of circumstances.

The choir will perform for us on Sunday, April 19 at the 10:00 am hour. Our stage will be set up for the Choir in the Fellowship Center.

You will NOT want to miss this inspiring performance.

Nominating Committee at Work Nancy Bodkin, Andy Higgins, Joe Geck and Kyle Turner were

elected to identify and nominate members of the church to serve as leaders.

They are prayerfully looking for persons to serve on committees for the Columbarium, Preschool, CYF, Memorials, Endowment, Audit and the Council.

Remember them in your prayers. Share your ideas. The Congregation meets in May to elect new leaders.

Our Savior’s Chancel Choir, under the direction of Lee Mathews, will present a special Cantata during both worship services.

The Passion and the Promise, with narration by Pamela Stewart and music by Ed Harris, will tell the story of Christ’s journey through the events of Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday. Composer Ed Harris was a close personal friend of our choir director, Lee Mathews. They attended the University of Montana together and performed on stage and in numerous opera and musical theater productions. Ed died in 2006 after a battle with ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Lee also commissioned Ed to write a variety of choral pieces which have been performed by the Everett Chorale.

Adult Education in April Sunday Mornings

Our Savior's Sunday adult education hours during the month of April will include a series of forums and events:

April 12th features Reverend Rick Pribbernow of Open Door Ministries, an Extended Ministry of the NW Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Seattle that specifically serves the Gay community.

Born in the 1990's from ELCA Bishop Lowell Knutson's concern about the lack of Lutheran church support for gay and lesbian Christians and their families, Open Door has since provided counseling, referral, and support to over 21,000 people dealing with their faith and HIV/AIDS and gay and lesbians issues.

Reverend Rick Pribbernow has served at Open Door's chaplain and director for the past 18 years. You can learn more about Open Door Ministries at their website at http://www.opendoorelca.org/.

April 19th will be given over to a sharing time with the very popular Ugandan Kids Choir visiting Our Savior's that Sunday. The Choir will perform at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Center.

April 26 will bring a presentation from Everett’s Bethany of the Northwest on the very relevant topic of How to Deal with Aging Parents. Bethany of the Northwest is a continuing care ministry, dedicated to enhancing the quality and dignity of the life of those whom they serve, out of love for God and neighbor. You can learn more about Bethany from their website: http://bethanynw.org/wordpress/?post.

Wednesday Evenings

Wednesday adult education after Holy Week begins again on April15th with Dennis Schaffert leading a new five-week "Bible Book of Faith" class on the Gospel of Daniel.

Michelle Geck will also lead her class titled "Who Is This Man" for five weeks through May 13th, the end of the adult education year. Her class is based on the book by noted theologian and author, John Ortberg, senior pastor at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.

Prayers, Praise & ThanksgivingPrayers, Praise & ThanksgivingPrayers, Praise & ThanksgivingPrayers, Praise & Thanksgiving Congratulations to: Mary Murray for receiving special recognition for her efforts in the Gear Up & Go program. The program is an initiative of the Snohomish County Health Leadership Coalition where 5th grade students wear powerpods to measure their level of activity. Mary teaches at Discovery Elementary in the Mulikteo School District.

We rejoice in the Baptism of: Axzel Glenn Williams, son of Brandon Van Corbach and Anna Williams, on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

Our prayers and sympathy to: The Gompf Family, in the death of Pam’s mother, Ann Bohnet, on Monday, March 9. A funeral service was held for Ann in Saskatoon, Canada on Saturday, March 14.

Farewell and Godspeed to John Yu You may remember John, from China, has been a student at Trinity Lutheran College. He spent a year with us doing his practicum. John worked with the elementary age kids. John will be returning to China soon, where he will take with him some profound insights he has gained in is year with us and with Trinity. We pray for John and the congregation he will serve in as the Youth Minister.

(Please let the church office know of others for whom we should be praying.)

OLDER WISER

LUTHERANS

Have you seen this man? Ray Bowman has joined Lloyd Townsend as a

regular volunteer working on the church’s landscaping.

We’re blessed by their work and their sweat! Thanks.

Our Quiltmakers express their love of community through the quilts they make

Our Quiltmakers, Marilyn Bloomfield, Leasha Brown, Billie Fisher, Susan Olson, Pat Joramo, Judy Kebbekus, Alma Knudsen, Dorothy Roalkvam, and Margaret Larsen, made 55 quilts this past fall and winter. The quilts are always designated to be donated to local non-profit agencies who work with the homeless and marginalized. Besides being warm, they are also beautiful and made with love.

The quilts were recently blessing and distributed to the Interfaith Family Shelter (41) and to Cocoon House (14). A value of $1925 was determined for the donation.

The staff at the Interfaith Family Shelter said the quilts were an answer to prayer, they had only 2 blankets left in storage. They were so grateful and sent their thanks.

The Quiltmakers meet the 1st and 4th Wednesday of the month at 10:00 am and again on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 11:00 am. If you can tie a knot, you can help!

O ur Saviors L utheran Church

A pril 2015

Do you recognize the picture above?

We all need a quiet place to rest and pray - to simply sit in the presence of God. Jesus often went to quiet places to pray (Matthew 14:23, Mark 1:35, 6:46, Luke 6:12, 9:18, 11:1). If you are looking for a quiet place to pray the prayer garden might be the perfect spot. Take a walk past the nursery and as you come around the building you will find the prayer garden. Pam Karas

Internet Resources related to prayer: http-//www.luthersem.edu/email/email.asp Once into the website then it's in the left column that's titled "God Pause Daily Devotions". http://www.prayingchurch.com/ http://www.sacredspace.ie/ http://www.pray-as-you-go.org

They w ent to a p lace called G ethsem ane,

M ark 14:32

We pray for: Christians who are being persecuted for their faith All those who are ill Students and teachers

The homeless in our community Those who are suffering loss Peace in all places where there is conflict
