The good the band and the ugly
All the characters have eye match have looking at each other. You could see a close up of Setenza looking at Blondie then it goes back to Blondie back to
setenza and setenza to Tuco. Because this shows setenza looking at both charac-ters it suggests he is worried about what’s about to unfold, this is because lots of
the eye line matches suggests that he is nervous. However all the characters have an eye line shot which suggests all the characters are equal and anyone
could win this dual. After the eye line shots you can see a selection of close ups which views the characters hands and the use of weapons. This helps create the meaning that Blondie is calm and in control of the situation. You can see this be-cause the close up shows that Setenza is fidgeting with his fingers. This would
immediately suggest to the audience that the character is nervous and unstable where as if you look at Blondie he is fairly relaxed and is staring them out almost to creep them out. If you look at Tucos hand you can see that it is shaking, this immediately indicates that he is scared and doesn’t know his fate. Also with the use of the 180 degree you are able to know where they are at all times. This al-lows the audience to know the positions of all the characters in the film. In con-trast to this there is also a Match on action on the characters to show they are
getting the guns ready, this creates suspense and this shows how important the character Clint Eastwood plays in the film; this is because Clint’s gun links in with the inevitable death of Tuco which links in with the Graveyard. There is also an Early long shot which shows what the characters are looking at, this builds con-nection with the characters, the amount of Early long shots which are used to link with the level of concern and with the guns and it almost tells you what’s about to unfold. This will make the audience feel on edge as they may know
what his destiny is in the film. One other indication you can see with regards to colour you can see that with the colours that Blondie is the Protagonist in the film as he is wearing light coloured clothes and the other guys are the antagonist as they are wearing Dark clothes which is symbolic for death and Evil. The colours
in the face off have all been edited in order to create Juxtaposition. One other as-pect of the clip you notice is the when Blondie puts the Rock down, when the
camera zooms on it, it means that the rock has some sort of meaning and all the characters in the scene need it for some reason so this makes it the plot device. After the rock has been placed it immediately cuts towards the characters faces to show what they are all after. The meaning which is created is that it shows to
the audience that this rock has some significance.
One other aspect of the clip that you see is the use of the early long shot over the shoulders in order to see what the other characters are looking at, this shows
focus and it would immediately let the audience know what the characters are trying to do. One other aspect of the clip that you can clearly notice is that there is a 180 degree cut from an early long shot to a High angle shot in order to show
suspense and has also been used in order to show shock, which will make the
audience wonder what the significance of the shootout. Something else you no-tice from the clip is that you can see Blondie with the Rock in his hand, this could
symbolise that he has the power of the situation and this also links in with the use of juxtaposition cos you can clearly see that there is 2 Guys following him
and watching his every move. In the face off clip 1.05 you can see that there is a wide shot of all the guys who are involved in the shootout and an idea of the Lo-cation of the film, so that it gives the film a narrative of the setting. One other
aspect of them clip you notice is the facial expressions on the faces of Tuco, you can almost tell that his fate is death and the graveyard behind him is symbolic of this. One other aspect you notice from the clip is that straight away you can see that Blondie is confident that he is going to win the face off as about 0.05 sec-
onds in you can see that he just looks at them in a way of disgust and cockiness. You can also sense that something might happen as the music gets louder, this creates tension and it makes the audience question what is about unfold. The
choice of music is also relevant to the clip as the film is Wild West and the music replicates this.
