It has been a tradition for a number of years to celebrate Summer Camp Meeting Sundays throughout the month of August at Winder First. We do this in August, because, in the past, a number of Camp Meetings were held in August. However, Camp Meetings have had to adjust over the last several years due to the school systems starting school so much earlier! For those, like me, who grew up wearing a coat and tie to church I’d like to encourage you to join me in leaving them at home during August. Ladies are also encouraged to dress casual and comfortable. Of course, we expect the casual dress to be in good taste. In addition to dressing casual, our services will have less liturgy and more singing. Our Music Director, Bruce Nunley, will have us singing the hymns and spiritual songs that many of us grew up singing! And we know our choir and other musical groups will inspire us with their music, as they do each week! As we did last year, on the last Sunday in August…August 27...you are encouraged to wear the colors and/or logo representing your favorite team (little league, school, college/university or professional), as long as it’s Red and Black! Do you have neighbors, friends, co-workers and family that are unchurched? Sure you do!! This is a wonderful time to invite them to come worship with you! Come each week expecting God to do great things! I look forwarded to greeting you each week at the “Camp Meeting” place! ~Calvin

IT’S CAMP MEETING TIME, AGAIN

The end of June and throughout the month of July has been hot and steamy! Of course, this is not too unusual for summer in the south! We know from experience that August is generally hot and steamy as well!

Therefore, many Camp Meetings have just finished their 2017 camp, having backed their meeting time up to the last couple of weeks in July.

Many of us grew up when it was the norm to wear a coat and tie to church; however, we have become more casual in our dress.

Church Pipe Organ Repairs Update Our church's pipe organ is now over 50 years old and has several components that need to be replaced or renovated. In particular, there are components made of leather that will fail completely within a few years, rendering the organ unplayable. The cost to repair these leather components will be approximately $60,000. As of July 19th, the Organ Repair Fund has reached a total of $58,330.91. Your continued support is appreciated as we reach the final stretch of this repair project!

AUGUST MISSION DONATIONS

“Meat for Missions” is the theme this month for donations to our local Food Pantry. Any canned meat is needed (such as tuna, chicken, stew, etc.) as well as monetary donations to buy fresh meat. If you’d like to contribute money, please make your check out to Winder First UMC, and cash is fine, too; just please mark the offering envelope as “Food Pantry Meat”.

PLEASE PLACE DONATIONS IN THE BINS LOCATED IN

THE FELLOWSHIP HALL OR IN THE HALLWAY LEADING FROM THE SANCTUARY TO THE NURSERY IN THE MAIN BUILDING.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FOOD PANTRY & CHURCH OF THE MONTH

Many volunteers are needed to help with Church of the Month responsibilities this month. Just a few hours of your time can make a tremendous difference in the lives of folks in our community. Sign-up sheets and schedules are located in the church office.

The Food Pantry here in Winder operates year-round and serves many, many hungry families in this community. Our church is responsible for staffing it every weekday afternoon in August from 5:30-6:00 to pack food boxes for clients. We need 3-4 folks daily.

or

You can help us get a G.R.I.P. on relieving suffering in our community. Clients are referred to us by DFACS who need assistance with utility bills, gasoline, food & clothing. You can help by:

G - greeting and assisting with initial applications and checking records

R - helping with record keeping of clients who are served

I - interviewing clients to find out how we can best help them

P - phoning utility companies, etc. to confirm details of the interview process.

This year, we will be doing the interviews on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from

9AM-12PM.

There's a place for YOU ... please join us in the fellowship of service!

SonShine in the Park VBS Blessings! During the week of June 26 - 30, our middle school mission team had the joy of sharing God’s love with 50 plus youth and children at the Winder Village Mobile Home Park located behind Ingles. Each day we shared Bible stories, games, crafts, music, snacks and lunch. For most of those that we met this was their first and only VBS experience for 2017. The SonShine in the Park mission was powered by the following wonderful members of the Winder FUMC family: (youth) Amber Conn, Robert Hill, Sarah Ann Hill, Jill Murphy, Jordan Murphy, Dayton Power, Kaden Knight, Kaleb Knight, Tabitha Rippy, Caitlin O’Shield and Drew Smith (adults) Toni Boldin, Pastor Calvin, Gwen Hill, Nicky Jones, Todd McCain, Tom Morton, Dwight, Tammy & Cali Oakes, Elleen Petree, Wayne & Pam Sharpton, Anthony Smith and Joann Smith. Special thanks to those who gave financial support and to the city of Winder for providing the tents.
