Kentucky Crop ReportNotwithstanding very late and
unfavorable spring under favorableweather during the month of August crops are maturing rapidlyand while they are late unless wehave early frosts the prospects areexcellent for a good crop of cornand tobacco Threshing of all grainis about completed The yield ofwheat was small averaging tenbushels to the acre for the Statethe quality being good
The prospect for a crop of cornis 88 per cent and the conditionof this crop is 01 per cent Fallplowing has progressed nicely in-most sections and the indicationsare that the usual average of wheatwill be sown
Some tobacco has been cut andon sticks but the most of it is stillgrowing and late plnitings are stillin danger of early frosts Meadowshave yielded an average crop ofhay and it has been saved as a rulein good condition Pastures havebeen goodand all live stock is infine shape Hogs are reportedscarce and high in some sectionsLabor scarce and wages high all over the State
Paper Will Soon Bt Soaring HighThe International Paper Com
pany is buying all the print paper mills in the Northwest andwill combine them All of themills in the East have alreadybeen combined It is predictedthat within twelve months theprice of paper will advance to sixcents per pound That will causethe disappearance of penny pa-pers and an increase in subscrip ¬tion rates of every paper in theUnited States The dollar week ¬lies will all have to raise to 1 50or 2 00 a year or cut down thesize of their papers We do notknow how soon it will come butit is not far off
