Colombia is one of the best performing country in the South American continent: it is the fourth largest country, it has almost 49 million inhabitants and it is third in the ranking of Latin American economies. Colombia registered a positive GDP growth over the recent years, thanks to its dynamic domestic market and the government committment to provide incentives for in-

vestments and stability for investors. The glass industry in Colombia showed favorable results in 2010 and 2011, decreasing in 2012 and 2013, before rebounding to 9,50 per cent in 2014. Colombia is one of South American countries where the local glass industry recycles up to 51 per cent of glass. The country can count on good expertise in terms of glass, both with imported and domestic products. The Colombian glass industry market is focused on both flat and hollow-container glass and international leading glass companies are already present in the country (such as, for example, Saint-Gobain and Owens-Illinois). Economic stability and social progress are boosting the country. In the first half of 2016 the industrial output increased by 4,5 per cent and its growth was higher than other sectors. Both the beverage and pharmaceutical industry registered appreciable results and can only improve in the next few years. In the construction sector, the Plan de Fomento a la Productividad y a l’Empleo, which includes about 60.000 new homes in rural areas and subsidies for the middle class to buy their own homes, is very important. The building sector is expected to register a compound annual growth rate of 12 per cent. Colombia is the fourth largest vehicle producer in Latin America. Accord-ing to Business Monitor estimations, vehicle sales are expected to grow at an average rate of 5,8 per cent between 2015 and 2019.Colombia is also trying to establish itself internationall;, in fact it has signed trade deals with many countries (United States, Euro-pean Union, Canada) and it is part of Mercosur, Pacific Alliance, EFTA, Triangulo del Norte, Caricom, etc…
