As a school community we have begun our journey towards excellence. GW Staff has been quite busy becoming familiar with new initiatives and revisiting not so new ones so that we are well prepared to meet the needs of each of our learners. The State has conducted a school quality review which will give us feedback on how to most effectively improve student performance. I continue to be impressed with the support that I have received and am eager to move forward on our journey together. The GW community has much to be proud of! The possibilities of the new year are before us and I am certain that we will enjoy celebrating our successes. Happy New Year! Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday break with your family and friends. During December the PTA ran a Holiday Boutique at GW. It was so much fun watching the kids shop for their family, friends and pets. Often the dog or cat was the one family member kids could not skip! It was very sweet to see their faces as they chose the 'just right' gift. Thank you all for supporting the boutique. On Friday January 20th, GWPTA will be hosting Family Dance night. NYPAC will be bringing their hip-hop dance instructors and Eddie Dowdell, a GW parent will be the DJ. This event will be free for all families and pizza will be available for purchase. For those who received free admission as part of their PTA membership, you will receive complementary dinner. So come in out of the cold weather and dance with your fellow GW families! The George Washington
As we enter a new year, it is appropriate to reflect on the past and set goals for the future. As a school community we have begun our journey towards excellence. GW Staff has been quite busy becoming familiar with new initiatives and revisiting not so new ones so that we are well prepared to meet the needs of each of our learners. The State has conducted a school quality review which will give us feedback on how to most effectively improve student performance. I continue to be impressed with the support that I have received and am eager to move forward on our journey together. The GW community has much to be proud of! A medida que comenzamos un nuevo año, es apropiado reflexionar en el pasado y establecer objetivos para el futuro. Como comunidad escolar, hemos comenzado nuestro viaje hacia la excelencia. El personal de GW ha estado muy ocupado familiarizándose con las nuevas iniciativas y volviendo a revisar las no tan nuevas para que
estemos bien preparados para cubrir las necesidades de cada uno de nuestros aprendices. El Estado ha conducido una revisión de la calidad escolar la cual nos ofrecerá sugerencias sobre como mejorar más efectivamente el desempeño del estudiante. Yo continúo impresionada con el apoyo que hé recibido y estoy entusiasmada
con seguir adelante en nuestro viaje juntos. La comunidad de GW tiene mucho por lo cual sentirse orgullosa! Las oportunidades del nuevo año están delante de nosotros y yo estoy segura de que disfrutaremos celebrando nuestros éxitos. Felíz Año Nuevo!

Del Escritorio del Presidente del GWPTA¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Espero que
todos hayan disfrutado las vacaciones con sus familias y amistades.
En diciembre, el PTA organizo la Tienda Navideña en GW. Nos divertimos muchísimo viendo a los niños hacer compras para sus familias, amigos y mascotas. A menudo, el perro o el gato fueron los miembros de la familia que no les podía faltar un regalito!! Fue muy
bonito ver los rostros de los niños mientras elegían “ese regalo especial”. Gracias a todos por apoyar la tiendecita.
El viernes, 20 de enero el GWPTA patrocinara La Noche Familiar de Baile. NYPAC traerá sus instructores de baile hip hop y Eddie Dowdell, un padre de GW será nuestro DJ. Este evento será gratuito para todas las familias y habrá pizza disponible para
comprar. Para aquellos que recibieron la entrada gratis como parte de su membresía del PTA, ustedes también recibirán la cena complementaria. ¡Así que no se queden afuera en las bajas temperaturas y vengan a bailar y mover la colita con las familias de GW!

January is gymnastics month in physical education. For maximum comfort, the Physical Education staff at GW encourages all children to wear loose fitting clothing.Footwear will be removed during the Gymnastics Unit.

GW 5th Graders wowed the audience as they danced across the stage at their Ballroom Dance Recital. The children
learned dance steps, lessons in team building, cooperation, communication, and good manners under the very talented
instruction of Joe Cavise. A special thank you to Mr. Cavise and all of our hard working and dedicated 5th grade dancers!
