A chemical plant near Fayetteville, NC had been releasing GenX and other PFAS chemicals into the Cape Fear River upstream of Wilmington, NC since 1980. In 2018, GenX levels decreased in water and GenX was NOT found in the water of most homes. Most likely because NC started to control the chemical plant’s release of PFAS into the Cape Fear River.
