  • WHAT IS A GMO Genetically Modified Organism An organism which has had a deliberate scientific genetic modification (McHughen 5) Strongly apposed by some of the green markets Considered unsafe by some Realistically, only a healthy, wholesome organism that can increase agricultural production

  • WHO APPOSES GMOS Green markets PETA GreenPeace Dont believe in changing food at all (Zimmerman) Dont know what this could cause Usually people who dont know what they are and are scared of what they might be (McHughen) This is an ad of an anti-GMO organizations website (Culliney)
  • Slide 4
  • WHY THEY APPOSE GMO Primarily: because they dont know what they are The interest that critics have is not scientific, but it is emotional. They are not informed, but they are afraid (McHughen 6) If people were more informed, there would be less opposition

  • SO WHAT IS A GMO (SCIENTIFICALLY) First of all: all genetic code is universal (Pence 37) based off of Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine nitrogen bases with phosphate and pentose sugar The same in crops The same in animals The same in humans GMOs are created by minor changes in the script of their genetic code (Pence 37) Tiny changes, mostly small deletions of amino acids that would naturally cause harm to the organism (Danner) Ex: drought resistant corn, weed resistant soybeans

  • WHY GMOS ARE NECESSARY Increase agricultural output, stimulate plant growth and help to reach the level of nutrition needed to remove food insecurity (Danner) By 2050, expect world population to double (Harris 26) We have to be ready to feed the world Agriculture is the best way (Harris 30) This is the best and primary way to feed the world This is an image of a cornfield that uses GMOs. There is no physical difference or appearance. (Waas)

  • AGRICULTURE IS THE ANSWER Farmers, ranchers and agriculturalists are naturally responsible for food insecurity With GMOs, there is a chance to modify crops that can grow within conditions like drought or massive heat to help the people over in Africa or the Mideast with their food insecurity (Danner) GMOs give a realistic chance at feeding the world
  • Slide 8
  • HOW GMOS BECOME MORE ACCEPTED Understand the genetic code and its properties Comprehend and publicize the reality of minuet changes to genetic codes This is not cloning or test subjects in a lab, it is only agriculturally modified crops that can increase food production and stimulate the fight against hunger
  • Slide 9
  • GMO: NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF GMOs will not hurt you GMOs do not cause cancer GMOs are no different, scientifically, than the genetic script wrapped up in your own chromosomes Everything about GMO is natural and organic, in the realistic versions of those words None of what has been done is generated in a lab, it actually is all created and parts of what the plant originally was

  • THE REAL CHOICE GMO Health of people from many countries Stability of food insecurity around the world No GMO Increasing hunger in every country including our own Food insecurity and starvation become more prevalent
