They will be school teachers and bankers, farmers and computer techs, policians and arsts, social workers, soldiers and cizens. They will be Sunday School teachers, missions leaders, missionaries and counselors. Without the training they are receiving today, our churches would be greatly diminished. On top of outstanding classroom teaching, here are some lessons they are learning: 1) Jesus Christ is Lord. They learn this truth, of course, from the Bible. Good Bible courses abound. Also important, however, they learn this truth from the lives of faculty, staff, and fellow students. They witness Christs love in administrators. They hear God in the prayers of a roommate. 2) All Chrisan believers are priests before God. Campus ministers, professors, staff members and older students teach the next generaon that they are created in Gods image, bequeathed the fearful joy of approaching God in Christ, with the blessings of individual autonomy and the responsibility of divine accountability. 3) Chrisan life at its fullest is lived in community. No social situaon quite defines communitylike a residenal university campus. Its a ghtknit place. On our campuses, students see the consequences of individual acons on group dynamics. Many come to understand sadness is not as cold when its shared and joy is only boundless when its extended to others. 4) Missions begins at the p of your nose. Our universies are not sterile, isolated enclaves. Many also experience for the first me a world vastly different from their own, as they parcipate in mission trips, revival teams, etc. They graduate understanding the challenges and opportunies of living life on missionfor Christ. And they are stronger for the experience. Pray for these schools as we connue to support them with our resources. They will mulply our investment many mes over. And send them your children. PRESRT STD U.S. POSTAGE

PAID PERMIT NO. 14 CLAYTON, NC

We have the opportunity of touching eternity today through our continued support of North Carolina’s historically Baptist universities: Campbell, Chowan, Gardner-Webb, Mars Hill, Meredith, Wake Forest, and Wingate Universities. Maybe that sounds strange coming from a UNC alum, but as a member of the Board of Ministers at Campbell University, I’m often reminded of the uniqueness of our historically Baptist campuses. Our gifts (FBC) given through the Mission Resource Plan of CBF of North Carolina enable us to provide scholarships and mission experiences for students of these institutions.

Numerous members of our own congregation have been touched through the years by these seven schools that have Baptist roots. Today, in classrooms, dining halls, dormitories, theaters, studios, recital halls, playing fields, libraries, and laboratories, these schools are shaping a new generation who will shape the Tar Heel state for decades—and God’s kingdom forever. When you consider how Jesus impacted the world with just twelve disciples, you realize the potential of the young men and women that come through these schools, including Divinity Schools at Campbell, Gardner-Webb, and Wake Forest.

Like the students who have gone before them, they will permeate our state with godly leadership. They will be school teachers and bankers, farmers and computer techs, politicians and artists, social workers, soldiers and citizens. They will be Sunday School teachers, missions leaders, missionaries and counselors. Without the training they are receiving today, our churches would be greatly diminished.

On top of outstanding classroom teaching, here are some lessons they are learning:

1) Jesus Christ is Lord. They learn this truth, of course, from the Bible. Good Bible courses abound. Also important, however, they learn this truth from the lives of faculty, staff, and fellow students. They witness Christ’s love in administrators. They hear God in the prayers of a roommate. 2) All Christian believers are priests before God. Campus ministers, professors, staff members and older students teach the next generation that they are created in God’s image, bequeathed the fearful joy of approaching God in Christ, with the blessings of individual autonomy and the responsibility of divine accountability. 3) Christian life at its fullest is lived in community. No social situation quite defines “community” like a residential university campus. It’s a tightknit place. On our campuses, students see the consequences of individual actions on group dynamics. Many come to understand sadness is not as cold when it’s shared and joy is only boundless when it’s extended to others. 4) Missions begins at the tip of your nose. Our universities are not sterile, isolated enclaves. Many also experience for the first time a world vastly different from their own, as they participate in mission trips, revival teams, etc. They graduate understanding the challenges and opportunities of living life “on mission” for Christ. And they are stronger for the experience. Pray for these schools as we continue to support them with our resources. They will multiply our investment many times over. And send them your children. Our universities will be great stewards as they shape eternity.

Committee Orientation Night

Wednesday, September 20th Attention all committee members! On Wednesday evening, September 20th,

most church committees are scheduled to meet at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship

Hall for Committee Orientation Night. The committees will each review their

particular committee’s duties, select a chairperson, advise the church office of

their selection, and organize their work for a new church year. Budget request

forms will also be received by each committee. We will begin in a general

session with prayer time and brief instructions.

This will take the place of our usual Vespers service, so if you are on a

committee and you are not on the meal list, call the church office

(919-553-4161) by Monday, September 18th, and we will add your name to the

reservation list for the dinner that precedes our meeting.

Backpack Buddies 2017-2018 school year!

We are in need of small easy open “tabbed” cans of vegetables and/or

fruits: corn, green beans, fruit cocktail, spaghetti o’s, etc. Please drop

them off in the bins labeled “Backpack Buddies” in the hall entering the

fellowship hall. If you have any questions concerning Backpack Buddies

or would like to be a part of the ministry, you may contact Beverly

Hughes at (919) 553.4034.

All SENIOR ADULTS Fall Lunch and Learn

Sunday, Sept. 24Th sponsored by the FBC Missions Council

We are excited to welcome pastor and senior adviser, Dr. George Fuller of Silver Compassion and Life Compass Plan, LLC.

Dr. Fuller will share with us about how seniors can "Thrive in the Second Half of Life," as well as answer your questions on all hot button issues affecting the aging population. He is an expert in helping seniors navigate the complexities of healthcare, insurance, finances and family discussions around aging. He brings the wisdom and heart of a pastor to this pertinent industry for seniors. Lunch is $3.00 per person. Please RSVP by Friday, Sept. 22.

What is Your Favorite Wednesday Night Meal?

During September we will be collecting your suggestions and seeing how we can include them on Wednesday evenings. Please put in writing your suggestions and put them in the special box where you pay for your meal. Thank you for your input!

Wednesday, Sept. 13 (supper 5:30) – Business Meeting (6:30) Salisbury Steak, Whipped Potatoes & Gravy, Green Beans,

Rolls, Salad Bar, Dessert

Note: In the spring there was an option for a child’s plate. Most parents preferred for their child to eat what adults were served. Based on this observation, there will not be a special menu for child’s meal.

With the fall comes getting back to a church schedule that includes Wednesday Family Night Suppers, Children and Youth programs and our Senior activities!

Mark your calendars for: Friday, Sept. 8 is Movie Night beginning with a hot dog supper ($3) at 5:30 pm and “Molder of Dreams” – a movie of how a Christian teacher changes lives of his students.

Blessings, Phyllis

If you have friends or family members who are not presently attending

a class, please tell them about this one! The first study topic will be to

gain a deeper understanding and fresh perspective of the Church. This

class will not use traditional Sunday School literature, but rather a mix

of presentations – handouts, videos and PowerPoints to study the

history of the Church from the Resurrection until the current day.

The class will meet in the Church Conference Room and will be led by

Lee Currie. If you have questions, please contact Lee (919.291.5089) or

John Paschal (919.218.1378)

New Sunday School Class Begins on Sunday, September 10th ...
