Sawdust Entrepreneurial Initiative Among Oko-baba Communities In Lagos: Local non-government organisations and a sawmillers' association introduced the recycling of waste sawdust into briquettes as a cheap and clean alternative fuel for stoves, They also provide technical assistance and micro-finance to entrepreneurs engaged in briquette production.

1. 1st UNEP Seed Award in Nigeria

2. Birdlife International Alice Bhukoli Award.A project supported in conjunction with Shell Petroleum Development Company implemented by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), won the prestigious Birdlife International Alice Bhukoli Award.

3. Community Peace Building Award by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, The Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Nations Development Programme during the recent celebration of the International Peace Day.

• Capacity Building for Forest Rehabilitation in Urhonigbe Forest ReserveGoal: To restore highly degraded Urhonigbe Forest ReserveMain Activities: Capacity Building for natural resource management; Key Results: Nursery Establishment and maintenance, Community Forest Scouts & patrols engaged; 1,550 seedlings planted on a 2 hectares of land.

• Climate Change Awareness Adaptation in the Obudu PlateauGoal: Climate Change MitigationMain Activities: Awareness, Tree Planting, Capacity BuildingKey Results: Restoration of degraded forest, Capacity Building for Forest Management, Alternative Livelihood.

•Reclamation of Degraded Land Resulting from Earth and Precious Stone Mining in KadunaGoal: Reclamation of sites degraded through Precious Stones Mining

Main Activities: Tree Planting, Training on alternative means of livelihood.Key Results: Trees Planted at degraded sites, Skills Acquisition Centre established, Capacity Building.

•Complements UNDP top-bottom Policy Programmes through Community Initiatives influencing local and national Laws.

•Gender mainstreaming

• in-situ conservation of the endemic and critically endangered Sclatter’s guenon monkey (Cercopithecus sclaterri), and internationally rated No. 4 in the 2006 IUCN global Red Data list of endangered species of fauna

•Pitcher irrigation technology in Bauchi State

Capacity Building:•Organised four workshops on Grant Process•Over 85% improved grantees capacity to develop proposals, project implementation, report writing and knowledge sharing.•SGP is the only fund that ensures active participation of communities from project design to sustainability plan and management.

Partnership:•Demonstrates collaborative effort between NGO, Community and Private Sector to address pollution.

SGP impact in figures: •50,000 poor rural dwellers, (65% women and 35% men) have benefitted directly from the projects •Protection and restoration of over 707,306 and 671.45 hectares of land respectively.•50% of communities have either never experienced or benefitted from any development support or participated in such a way as allowed by SGP.
