1-7 DecemberHaving been selected by the European Youth Parliament officials, Elona Kronidou, Stylianos Vrikkis and Andreas Malekos of Form 6 represent Cyprus in the Human Rights Conference in Nuremberg, Germany. The students are accompanied by their teacher Ms Georgia Efstathiou.

1 DecemberIn an attempt to encourage young children to read more, the GCS Library presents Mrs Photiou’s book «Ένας Αληθινός Παράδεισος». The presentation is followed by a puppet show based on extracts and other fun activities.

1 DecemberDOE Bronze qualifying hike.

3 DecemberThe Edexcel Board of Examinations announces that six GCS students will be awarded the Edexcel High Achievers Award for having attained the Highest International Subject Mark (joint) in IGCSE Art & Design: Angelidou Andrea, Christodoulou Katerina, Costappis Irene, Iacovou Angeliki, Kalli Maria and Pittakas Panos. The School Management congratulates the students and their teachers, Ms Litsa Paraliki, Ms Marianna Penga and Mr Peter Barron for their hard work and dedication.

3 DecemberDonation of BBQ proceeds to the Anticancer Society.

4 DecemberThe members of the Science Club attend a lecture on Tele-Echography by Professor Sotos Voskarides.

4 DecemberThe following students excel in the Interschool Biathlon Games organised at the Grammar School Nicosia: Savvides Alexandros, Takkou Teressa, Leonidou Panayiotis: Silver Medal, Takkos George: Bronze Medal.

4 & 5 DecemberGreek play production of Iacovos Kambanelis’s ‘Το Μεγάλο μας Τσίρκο’. Our young actors and actresses excel once again giving an outstanding performance. Proceeds are donated to EUROPA DONNA Cyprus.

5 DecemberAll classes participate in the GCS Christmas Bazaar 2012. All proceeds are donated to charity.

5 DecemberThe girls of the Dance Club participate in the Christmas Bazaar with a festive dance routine.

6 DecemberThe GCS Volunteers Club attend an event in honour of all Cypriot volunteers, held at the Presidential Palace to celebrate the World Volunteerism Day.

7- 8 DecemberDOE Silver practice hike.

7 DecemberThe students’ Events Workshop organise the auditions for the DIY Christmas Variety Show 2012.

8 DecemberMembers of the Play-Act Club visit Theatro Ena to watch the production of the dramatic true story of John Merrick: The Elephant Man. The students are accompanied by Ms Aspasia Marangou and Ms Frangesca Pieri.

10 DecemberThe Maths Club organises a lecture on “How to pass the exam easily” by guest speaker Mr Sotos Voskarides, Senior Lecturer at TEPAK. Students and parents are provided with advice on how the former should work throughout the year as well as before exams in order to succeed, and the latter on how to support and encourage their children to do their best.

10-11 DecemberThe French Department organises two lectures open to students and parents about studies in France. Guest speaker: Mrs Nada Papaeftychiou, representative of the French Embassy/French Institute and “Campus France”, the national agency in Cyprus about studies in France.

11 DecemberThe Current Affairs Club organises the talk and presentation ‘Women in trafficking’ by Ms Agni Papageorgiou (Ministry of Interior - Administrative Officer) and Ms Josie Christodoulou (MIGS – Policy Coordinator)

12 DecemberDonation to the charity organisation Work For Kids, to support the Children’s Cancer Ward at Makarios Hospital.

13 DecemberThe GCS hip hop team is awarded the Silver Medal in the annual Dance Competition organised by the Ministry of Education & Culture: Demetriou Ioanna, Photiou Alkistis, Clark Ioanna, Lampri Kyriaki, Makrygianni Nikoletta, Hadjilouca Constantina, Zangoulou Mariella, Livanou Christina, Avraam Panayiota, Mouskidou Marita, Constantinidou Avra, Tsiakka Antigoni. 13 DecemberHaving been granted membership in the European Road Safety Charter (a European platform made up of academic and research institutions, enterprises, associations and public authorities who undertake to carry out concrete actions in order to resolve the road safety problems that they encounter in their day-to-day environments), the GCS organises a lecture on road

safety for the students of Form 6. Guest Speakers: Mrs Lena Mavrikiou, Mr George Mavrikios and Mrs Toulla Karadjia.

14 DecemberThe GCS MERA Programme team and the teachers-in-charge of the programme attend the educational workshop ‘Recycling: a step towards saving our planet’ held at the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute.

18 DecemberThe Science Club organises a lecture on wine tasting for all its members. Guest Speaker: Mr Mateo Jarrin Cuvi

19 DecemberAll students and staff attend Christmas Church Service at St. Sophia Church.

10 OctoberThe following students excel in the Pancyprian Biathlon competition held in Larnaca: Takkos George Gold Medal, Savvides Alexandros Silver Medal and Takkou Teressa Bronze Medal. The GCS is ranked the second best school in the competition.

25 OctoberThe following students excel in an interschool swimming

19 DecemberThe members of the GCS Volunteers Club in cooperation with the organisation ‘Βαγόνι Αγάπης’ hold a charity event in the School cafeteria. The purpose of the event is the collection of food stuff for families in need.

20 DecemberThe School Events Committee, in cooperation with students of Form 7, organises an afternoon Christmas party for staff children.

20 & 21 DecemberChristmas Celebration followed by the DIY Variety Show organised by Form 7.
