FROM THE DESK OF PASTOR SCHULTZ

THE REAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE

REFORMATION

FORMATION – “The Lord God formed the man

from the dust of the ground” (Genesis 3:7). That’s

where it all began. What a beautiful formation

that was! Holy! In the Image of God!

CONFORMATION – “She also gave some to her

husband who was with her, and he ate

it” (Genesis 3:6‑7). What a tragic distortion of

the original formation! Sinful! Conformed now to

the image of the evil one! “In this way death came to all men, because

all sinned” (Romans 5:12).

RE-FORMATION – “Christ Jesus…made himself nothing taking the

form of a servant, he humbled himself and became obedient to death –

even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5‑8). That’s where our hope is

founded. What a wonderful step in God’s goal of re-forming sinful crea-

tion. His Son was given to the world as the suffering servant who gave

his life and rose again from the dead so that

our sins would be forgiven.

TRANSFORMATION – “Do not conform

any longer to the pattern of this world but be

transformed by the renewing of your

mind” (Romans 12:2). This is the will of God

for all people – A transformation from sin-

ner to saint, from enemy to friend, from lost

one to found one. “This is good, and

pleases God our Savior, who wants all

men to be saved and to come to a

knowledge of the truth” (I Timothy 2:3-

4).

Let God make every day a reformation day through repentance and a

remembrance of your baptism!

NEWS & NOTES Rev. and Vickie Wingfield announce a new addition to their family.

Rev. Windfield served at BSLC as Vicar in 2012-2013.

BSLC's brand new MOPS group is off to a

great start! Over 20 moms have joined this

group with more than 25 children. We've had

our first two meetings and the theme for the

year is We are the Starry-Eyed. Beautiful Sav-

ior is blessed with a dynamite leadership team that is working hard to

make the meetings fun, Christ-centered, en-

couraging, and a place for moms to connect

with other women. The women in the group have joined us from our

church, our preschool, friends of our preschool families, and even just

community moms who found us online through the MOPS website. It

is such a blessing to finally have the space for this ministry and the

amazing volunteers from our church who are caring for the children

during these meetings!

Dear Members of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church,

I want to start out by saying thank you all so much for all your continued thoughts and prayers throughout Kayla’s pregnancy. It was an extremely difficult four months for us, but knowing we had so many family, friends, and many church members sending prayers our way it gave us a feeling of comfort that everything would work out how it was supposed to.

Kayla was diagnosed at her week 19 appointment with a complication that results in premature delivery and put on bed rest. At 21 weeks she was admitted to the hospital and at 24 weeks all the doctors and nurses thought delivery was happening that weekend. Throughout the whole process we never lost faith, Pastor Schultz was very good at reassuring us that God already had a plan for these three little ones and we just continued to pray that whenever they were born that they would be as healthy as possible.

After that weekend, we had about three and a half weeks of lying there, just waiting for these kids to make their appearance. They didn’t want to do any testing or anything to disrupt anything, but at around week 27 and a half they checked Kayla again, and miraculously the complication hadn’t wors-ened at all. We were then given the option to go home and remain on bed rest or stay in the hospital, as they warned, this could still be happening at any minute. After six and half weeks in the hospital, we chose to go home and come in a couple times a week for appointments.

At almost every appointment we would usually hear from the doctors and nurses how big of a miracle theses babies were. One of the nurse practitioners explained that this complica-tion happens in about 1% of all pregnancies, and that once the complication reached where it was at week 24, that ba-bies would be here very shortly. She went on to explain that our story will be one she shares with other women who have this same issue to give them hope and hopefully show them that faith can literally do miraculous things.

After almost four months on bed rest, and six and a half weeks in a hospital, at 33 weeks and six days Kayla gave birth to two beautiful girls and one handsome little boy. Kylie weighed 4 lb 14 oz, Kacey was 5 lb 3 oz, and Turner was 4 lb 12 oz. They all spent 22 days in the NICU, and were able to come home on September 17.

I want to sincerely thank you all once again for your thoughts and prayers, and for all those who have already brought food to us, and for those who are planning to bring more food to us.

I heard that the Sunday after we had the babies Pastor announced their birth and also that we plan to move back to our hometowns about 40 minutes north of Manhattan. We have wanted to get back around our hometowns and around family for a long time, but never really had an opportunity to get back to our small towns. However, when you have triplets, it’s pretty tough to keep them away from grandmas and grandpas, so we decided to use this opportunity to get back home to family, as we have heard from so many people we’ll need all the help we can get. What is really neat though is that even though we will be moving towards the end of the year, that this congregation is still willing to lend out a helping hand if ever in need. So from the bottom of our hearts, Kayla and I really want to thank eve-ryone so much for everything the congregation and Pastors have done throughout these last four months, you have all been so much appreciated.

Sincerely, James and Kayla Hagedorn

Jesus made the blind see (both liter-

ally and spiritually) and the lame

able to walk. We, of course, cannot

do such miracles, but He did bless us

with the amazing gift of dogs to serve

as companions, protectors, work part-

ners, and yes, even eyes, legs,

arms/hands, or simply a calming

presence.

We will continue collecting donations for KSDS, Inc (formerly Kansas Specialty Dog Ser-

vice), an organization in Washington, Kansas that breeds and trains Golden and Labrador Re-

trievers to be assistance dogs for people through October 9, to be delivered at their fall gradua-

tion ceremony on October 15.

KSDS has been operating as a non-profit organization with financial support from the state of

Kansas for over 25 years. They are fully accredited members of Assistance Dogs International,

training three distinct types of assistance dogs: Guide dogs, which help people with visual im-

pairments; Service dogs, which help people with mobility/balance impairments; and Facili-

ty dogs which are trained to work alongside a professional to assist in education, rehabilitation

and more (the Facility dogs would be most similar to the LCC Comfort K-9's as they are fully

trained service dogs that assist more than one person in a variety of stressful situations). They

maximize the benefit of every dollar donated by operating with the help of many volunteers,

who help with special work projects and as puppy raisers.

KSDS breeds their own dogs for mental and physical soundness for their future careers, and

they have a very high success rate (over 70%) in placing the dogs as workers. At 8 weeks, the

puppies are placed in the care of puppy raisers who raise, train, and socialize the puppies until

they are between 18 and 24 months of age when they are called back to KSDS for health and

temperament testing; when these tests are passed, the dogs are placed in their specific career

training program for an additional 6 to 12 months of formal training including custom training,

based on personality matching, for their future partners. Young dogs that do not pass the as-

sessments are offered for career change adoption as pets; generally, the puppy raiser family is

given first choice to adopt "their" puppy, but if they cannot, there is a waiting list for adopting

young, healthy, well-trained and socialized Labradors and Golden Retrievers.

The dogs, each valued at $25,000, are placed with their partners at no charge other than the in-

itial $25 application fee. The persons receiving the dogs stay in housing provided by KSDS for

1 to 3 weeks, depending on the type of dog they are receiving. During this time they learn to

use the dog's skills and how to care for their new partner. At the end of this time, KSDS holds a

human bond.

In addition to financial donations, KSDS also appreciates in-kind donations, including those on
