“More than 100 year experienceinbusiness and industrial development”
In 1906, a group of industrialists concerned about quality, certificationandresearchinthewooltextilesectordecidedtofoundasupportingassociationforcompetitivenessofcompaniesnamed Acondicionamiento Tarrasense. Those industrialistsknewhowtoanticipateneedsforbusinesscollectivesolutionsand laid the foundations of the current concept of technologycentre.Overtheyearsandthanksto theworkperformed, theentityevolvedboth to theextensionof itsactivitiesand to thenamethatiscurrentlyidentifiedwiththebrandknownasLeitatTechnologicalCenter.
During these years, our vocation in offering services tocompaniesandentitieshasremainedunchanged, whereastheactivities developed, the organization and our internal worksystem have changed significantly specializing in differentknowledge areas allowing the search for the best technologysolutionsforcompanies.
The results obtained lately show that the bet developed byLeitat Technological Centre towards knowledge generationand transfer to theproductive fabric isaneffectivemodel foreconomicgrowthinafast, efficientandsustainableway, creatingatthesametimenewareasandmodelsfortalentdevelopmentandpersonalperformanceforallemployees.
Present Days2009was the yearofdeepeningcrisis for theentirebusinesscommunity, as a result of a combination of factors includingindustrial activity decrease, difficult access to loan andunemployment rate increase. All this has led the Spanisheconomytoadifficultsituationforthegenerationofwealthandgrowth.Althoughthereisnounanimousagreementonthecausesofthissituation, thebeginningoftheeconomicrecoveryandtheurgentand long-termmeasures that shouldbe implemented,we can see unanimity on the need of a change in productionmodel, basedontheapplicationofindustrialprocessesandhighadded value products and strong commitment to innovation.ThisiswhereLeitatTechnologicalCenterisdevelopingbusinesssupporttocompaniesandinstitutionsastechnologypartner.

Minimizeenvironmentalrisk
FiveEuropeancompanies, twofromtheUKandthreefromSpain, join forces in the REPHATER project. The initiative, financedby the Eco-Innovation Program of the European Commissionand led by Leitat, seeks treatment, reuse andmore efficientmanagement of wastewater from the dairy industry fromthe sequential combination of two electrochemical advancedtechnologies. The developed system is based on the recoveryof phosphate, allowing recovery for different applications andreachingupto80%recoveryofphosphorusand100%potentiallyreusablewater.Thiscombinationof technologiesalso intendstosignificantlyreducereagentconsumption, energyandwasteassociatedtoconventionalwatertreatments.
The main objective of BIOLUB project is to reduce theenvironmentalriskposedbytheuseoflubricatingoilthroughthedevelopmentofnewchemicalformulationsofhighperformanceoil. Led by the company Lasem Industrial Chemistry, we areworkingongettingfullybiodegradablelubricantproductswithgood functional properties, 100% renewable, and allowing adecreaseoflubricantdependenceonpetrochemicalorigin.NewmethodsofpurificationofthefinalethersanddevelopmentofamethodologyformonitoringtheesterificationreactionbyNIR(NearInfraredSpectroscopy)areotherprojectscarriedout.
Photovoltaic solar energy is no longer an alternative tobecomearealityassourceofsustainableenergygeneration. It is environmentally friendly, since emerging photovoltaictechnologiesareeconomicallyviableandcontributetoreducegreenhousegases.Withinthisinnovativeenergyenvironment, theEPHOCELLprojectwaslaunchedwiththeaimofdevelopingoptical elements capable of transforming non-used solarradiationintousefulradiationcapableofgeneratingelectricityby means of photovoltaic energy. The initiative, part of theSeventh European Framework Program, is led by LeitatTechnological Centre and involves six European countries. The results of the project seek to increase the efficiency ofphotovoltaicdevicesandgeneratenewknowledgeinthisfield.

It also aims to create predictive models for toxicityassessment of risks, and develop newprotocols for life cycleanalysisofthesematerials, fromproductiontodiscarding.
Addressing the main causes of the limited acceptance ofcertain protective clothing, considering life cycle, comfortand mechanical parameters, is the main purpose of theSAFEPROTEX project, included into the Seventh EuropeanFrameworkProgram.Theinitiative, thatincludestheparticipationofninecountries, nineteen companies and several research centers, aims toconsider the complicated risk conditions present in severaltypes of emergency operations, such as accidents involvingchemicalspills,extremeconditions(floods,blizzards,storms,etc.),smallfires,andthecombinationofthesefactors.Themajorinnovation of the project is the development and applicationoffunctionalmaterialscapableofprovidingmultipleusesforprotection.Specifically,themainmaterialsstudiedaremulti-layeredsilicates,carbonnanotubes,alcoxisiloxanos,chromicmaterials,antimicrobialsandmicrospheres.

Energy storage is one of the greatest challenges facingcontemporary society. Efficient storage, minimizingenvironmental impact on the application scenarios ofelectricity, isoneof theobjectivesproposed in thedraftEFT-Energy-Technology-Future,whichpretendsthedevelopmentofinnovativegenerationofenergystoragesystems.
Themainobjectiveof theELECTROCLAYproject is to improveconductivity of plastics. These improvements range fromthe manufacturing process to the increase of the conductiveproperties of materials. This is complemented with weightreduction, mechanicalpropertiesimprovement, barriereffects, etc.
As part of the callNuclis Technological Innovation (industrialresearchandexperimentaldevelopmentbyaconsortium)oftheCatalanGovernmentandledbythecompanyZanini, thePIRECOproject iscreated. The initiativeaimstoresearchanddevelopnewformulationsofpaintsandvarnishes, aswellasnewtypesof nano-coatings that confer high non-stick properties of dirt(oilandgrease,biologicalmatter,etc.)ontheexternalplasticpartsofvehicles.The new paints or dirt nonstick coatings developed will helpto improve aesthetics and functionality of the outer parts ofautomobilesandwillkeeptheircurrentperformancefollowingthestandardsofenvironmentalcare.
