SIMULATORS

Our simulators have 17 simulation mediums, 7 basic simulator types, 50 different types of ships, 50 maritime geographic locations and 3000 various auxiliary vessels and equipment.

The Training Pool within the Applied Marine Training Center was designed with a dual function in mind as it can be used both for swimming purposes while also serving as a wave simulator. The training pool is designed to teach students marine survival techniques and rescue methods. The pool also has the capacity to provide basic SCUBA (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) and Independent Underwater Respirator diving training - STCW (Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping).

TRAINING SHIP (T/S PÎRÎ REİS UNIVERSITY)

The Ankara Ferryboat, was acquired by Pîrî Reis University with the support of the Chamber of Shipping and DATI Holding. The ship is now registered under the name of T/S Piri Reis University. This way PRU has achieved another first by being able to meet compulsory internship requirement of the students. Students of the Engineering and Business Administration departments are also given the opportunity to serve their internships aboard their own vessel.

T/S Piri Reis University Vessel, with a capacity of 240 cadets provides training and serves as a floating laboratory for engineering studies. Our students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in simulators, in workshops and from classes aboard a real ship.

Our University Training Ship has been providing maritime internship opportunities to our students as well as maritime students of other universities since 2015. During this period, approximately 1350 cadets received open sea training.

INTERNATIONAL MONACO CONFERENCE

INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION

A great contribution from Piri Reis University to World Maritime Education. The updated version of an IMO Model Course 2.07 engine room simulator educational document was prepared by Piri Reis University scholars. Publications relating to IMO Model courses are frequently updated by the IMO (International Maritime Organization). In 2010 the IMO decided to revise IMO Model courses along with broad revisions in the STCW Convention and Constitution. IMO Model Course 2.07 - engine room simulator - was one of these. The updated version of the IMO Model Course 2.07 engine-room simulator educational document was prepared by Piri Reis University, Faculty of Maritime Studies scholars under the coordination of Seigo Hashimoto,a lecturer in the same university. Thus, for the first time in IMO history, a Turkish university has prepared an official document which will be a guide to the IMO and to all countries that provide maritime education.

In the election held at our university in 2018,PRU Rector Prof. Dr. Oral ERDOĞAN was selected as President of the Black Sea Association of Maritime Universities. Pirî Reis University has, to date,hosted many national and international conferences, workshops, seminars and symposiums. Most recently, as President of the Black Sea Universities Association, Dr. Erdoğan hosted both local and foreign guests at the University on the occasion of the General Assembly and International Conference. Among the countries attending were Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and of course the host country, Turkey.

‘’A PRU Maritime History Application and Research Center” was established in order to convey the necessary documents and information to the coming generations researching maritime history at both the national and international level. The Maritime History Application and Research Center was established and, despite the short time of its existence, has been able to carry out successful studies. Piri Reis University, together with the International Hydrography Organization and the Oceanography Museum of Monaco, jointly organized the symposium "Conservation of the World’s Seas, and Oceans and an International Approach to Mapping" - held on June 20-21, 2019 at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

he MENTORESS Project is being implemented by Pîrî Reis University with support from the EU. The MENTORESS Project aims to fully identify the problems faced by all women in the maritime sector and to provide women with the skills to solve these problems.

‘’Armelsan Mine Sweeper and Sonar Ship Project ”

PÎRÎ REİS UNIVERSITYCERN PROJECT

Turkey has been a member of CERN since May 6, 2015. This membership allows Turkish students to participate in the CERN student program. Pîrî Reis University faculty member Assoc.Dr. Kadri ÖZDEMİR is currently conducting various scientific studies on behalf of Pîrî Reis University at CERN.

Starting with its “Minesweeper” and “Sonar Ship” projects, established in cooperation with industry, Pîrî Reis University is working to further its relations with the industrial sector in numerous projects within the scope of technological development/acquisition/ transfer projects, R&D, and application projects. The ”Armelsan Mine Sweeper and Sonar Ship” - projected cost€1.500.000 - is currently under construction.

Piri Reis University (PRU) Technology Transfer Office, which has been established in the premises of Teknopark Istanbul since its foundation, completed its physical infrastructure and started its project development activities in 2016. Currently; Technopark continues its activities as a Research, Development, Innovation and Industrialization Technology Transfer Office – (Araştırma Geliştirme İnovasyon ve Sanayileşme Teknoloji Transfer Ofisi -PRU-ARISTTO-) in B1 Block, within the PRU Technopark Commercial Enterprise Directorate.The main purposes of PRU-ARISTTO are;

• To convert the academic know-how of the university into technology to be used in industry,• To produce knowledge within the scope of postgraduate education beneficial for industry and to disseminate and transform this into technological products,• To develop cooperative training opportunities and capabilities with the industrial sector,• To ensure that intellectual and industrial know-how and proprietary rights of the commercial products produced are managed properly, and to encourage the academic entrepreneurship necessary to meet the requirements of industry, and• To contribute to economic and social development.

The Pîrî Reis University Technopark Economic Enterprise was established in the Technopark Istanbul Technology Development Zone in order to carry out activities in Research, Reporting, R&D, P&D and EU Projects etc. within our university.

QATAR NAVAL ACADEMY (Mohammed Bin Ghanim Al-Ghanim Naval Academy), STARTED EDUCATION with the COLLABORATION and SUPPORT of PİRİ REİS UNIVERSITY.

The Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) has awarded PIRI REIS UNIVERSITY “The Prize for Excellence in International Co-operation”, together with the Qatar Naval Academy, for cooperation in the provision of higher education and the development of research institutions.

An agreement between Piri Reis University and the Qatar Emiri Armed Forces made to provide maritime education at the highest level and within the framework of international standards. For the 6 years of the project, after the initial preparation period, Piri Reis University will provide educational services in the setting up and management of the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces Academy. This is comprised of 4 programs. Many high level officials attended the Academy’s opening ceremony which took place in Doha, Qatar on the 11th of February 2019.
