When the sun is shining during the day, your photovoltaic system generally produces more electricity than your household can consume. If you cannot store this excess power, you have to feed it into the grid and buy it back at expensive rates during the night. Maximum consumption of self-generated powerThe Smart Battery will learn your consumption profile over time and ensure that clean energy from your own solar panels will be available whenever you need it.

Higher yieldSubsidies are often conditional on limiting the power infeed, for example, to 50% of the rated output of the photovoltaic system. If the remaining power is not consumed, yield performance will be lost. While conventional batteries store excess energy directly with the result that up to 8% of yield performance is lost, the Smart Battery delays charging on sunny days until later in the day, thereby minimizing curtailment losses to below 2%.

Especially long battery service lifeBecause weather and consumption forecasts are taken into account, the batteries can be charged and discharged smoothly based on predictions. This extends their service life, as it avoids high and fast charging currents in particular. As a result, you can be sure that your battery retains its high capacity even beyond the 10-year warranty period.

What makes the Smart Battery so smart: its charging IQThe charging IQ of the Smart Battery coordinates the charging and discharging procedures based on weather and consumption forecasts.

The Junelight Smart Battery is integrated on the AC side in your domestic mains supply.

AC instead of DC

This offers a number of advantages.

High degree of flexibilityAC-coupled systems can be dimensioned independently of the size of the photovoltaic installation and PV inverter, and can be installed anywhere in the house.

Best tariffs day and nightAAC-coupled systems can draw electricity from the mains grid. This means that you can take advantage of day and night tariffs and that you will be able to participate in electricity trading in the future.

Integration of other power generatorsOther kinds of power generator, such as cogeneration units or miniature wind turbines, can easily be connected to AC-coupled systems because they also supply alternating current instead of direct current.

Greater independence from the gridThe output of AC-coupled systems is not limited by the PV inverter. In other words, during periods of high power consumption, you can utilize the full PV installation capacity and the battery discharge capacity simultaneously, thus reducing the amount of power you need to draw from the grid.

The basic housing holds up to two battery modules of 3.3 kWh each. The expansion housing allows you to add a maximum of six modules for a total capacity of 19.8 kWh.

What is unique about this system? You can flexibly upgrade your installation (if technically feasible) whenever you need more capacity to meet the needs, for ex-ample, of a growing family, an electric car or a heat pump.

As certain as the sunrise every morning

We use lithium-ion batteries in our Junelight Smart Battery because they possess the highest power density. This makes them the perfect energy storage system – provided their safety is assured. For this reason, we are the only supplier who had the system as a whole certified by the VDE rather than just its individual components. Furthermore, we also had our production line certified in order to ensure that we test each individual device before it is shipped.

The test standards for industry often differ from those for private households. Our requirement: always test according to the most stringent standard. In addition, we have integrated a safety concept that ex-ceeds the requirements of the standard: the battery management system, the inverter and the control unit can work independent-ly of one another to shut down the batteries in the event of a fault, thus preventing any potential hazards.

Thanks to certification by the VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) and a three-stage safety concept.

The Junelight Smart Battery is just the first step towards an intelligent and sustainable home. You can use existing communication interfaces to connect your heat pump or a heater in order to increase your self-con-sumption. Data from the energy storage can be used to integrate it into a smart home. Integration into a KNX or Loxone system provides you with unlimited possibilities. Switch on your pond pump when sufficient

sunlight is available, charge your electric vehicle, or control other consumers.

AC-coupled refers to a system that can easily be incorpo-rated on the AC side in the domestic mains supply. An example of this kind of system? The Junelight Smart Battery. Charging IQ is the artificial intelligence integrated in the Smart Battery that learns to understand consumption pro-files. It combines this knowledge with weather forecasts to control charging and discharging operations predictively so as to optimize the consumption of self-generated electricity. Curtailment losses are incurred when excess electricity cannot be fed into the grid as a result of statutory → feed-in limits (e.g. 70% according to German Renewable Energies Act (EEG)), and the battery is already full. Thanks to → charging IQ these can be reduced with the Smart Battery. Energy transition refers to the transition from conventional to renewable energy sources. As the feed-in power of the sun and wind is naturally subject to fluctuation, maintaining a stable energy supply is a highly complicated issue. For this reason, storage batteries capable of buffering these fluctua-tions in generated power are needed. Feed-in limit refers to a percentage maximum value of the installed photovoltaic module power: Currently 70% for installations supported by the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG), and 50% for installations supported by the KfW bank. It results in → losses in yield caused by curtailment. These can be reduced thanks to the → charging IQ however. Feed-in tariff is the amount of money received by the owner of a photovoltaic installation for solar-generated electricity that is not “self-consumed” and is therefore fed into the grid. Since this tariff is falling and electricity prices are ris-ing, it increasingly makes sense to “self-consume” home-generated electricity using the Junelight Smart Battery. Inverter is the component that converts direct current to alternating current – and vice versa. The inverter is an inte-gral component of the Smart Battery system. Optimization of consumption of self-generated electricity describes the intelligent and predictive control of the charg-ing and discharging processes of the Smart Battery → charging IQ. This allows you to cover the maximum possi-ble share of your power consumption from the electricity generated by your own solar installation. Sector coupling refers to the concept of interconnecting and optimizing electrical supply systems, heating supplies, transport and industry in such a way as to reduce CO2 emis-sions and power consumption, and to mitigate power fluc-tuations from renewable energy sources. Energy stores like the Junelight Smart Battery play an important role in achiev-ing these goals. VDE stands for Verband der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies). It is one of the largest indepen-dent test institutes and is responsible for drawing up electri-cal engineering standards in Germany. The Junelight Smart Battery was verified there.
