Full IB Candidacy Requirement 1Students select and take six IB exams over the course
of grade 11 and 12 to count towards their Diploma- Exams are offered in May ( any number of exams may be taken but would need to be registered as ‘Additional’)
One of the following combinations is needed for the selected six:
4 HL Exams+ 2 SL Exams OR3 HL Exams+ 3 SL Exams1 exam from each of Groups 1-6 OR 1 exam from each of groups 1-5, with the sixth exam
being a second exam from groups 1-5)
IB Exam restrictionsIB Exams are available ONLY to grade 11 and 12
studentsFull IB Diploma Juniors may have ONLY up to
two SL exams count towards their Diploma (any number of exams may be taken as “Additional Exams”, students must indicate this during registration)
Juniors typically may sign up for SL exams onlyStudents must be enrolled in an IB class to test
(Exceptions: UMTYMP students, school supported self taught language students)
Full IB Candidacy Requirement 2Take the Theory of Knowledge (TOK)class
during second semester of the junior year and continue taking the class first semester of the senior year
Full IB candidacy requirement 3Complete an Extended essay: The extended
essay is an independent research paper, not to exceed 4000 words ,that students write on a topic of their choice between junior and senior years
Students select a faculty member as their adviser for the extended essay who will support the process
Full IB candidacy Requirement 4Fulfill CAS Requirements:CAS is an acronym for Creativity, Action and Service Students must involve themselves in Creative projects, involve
themselves in physical Activities beyond their comfort zone and involve themselves in community Service activities.
About a total of 150 hours with a reasonable balance between the three is expected.
Students may start during the summer of their sophomore year and continue accumulating hours till almost the end of their senior year
Students complete CAS reflections through an online platformThe school has a designated CAS coordinator to support this
requirement
IB Advisory supportAt the end of the Grade 10 year when students
register for classes for their junior year, students will be asked to indicate their intent to pursue the Full IB diploma on the registration form
Students will be expected to have requested the TOK class as well
Such students will be placed in the Junior IB advisory and will continue in the senior IB advisory as a cohort
At the end of the junior year students will be expected to make a commitment to continue with the program
