On September 7, 2013, Market Square in Downtown Reidsville came alive with the Latin sounds of Clinic Carnival! Carnival attendees joined us for zumba, carnival games and more, all to benefit the Free Clinic of Rocking-

ham County.

Clinic Carnival, the recent fundraiser for the Free Clinic of Rockingham

County, was a success, giving the community an

afternoon of family fun while earning $11,000 for The Clinic. Clinic Carnival in-cluded zumba, an exercise that involves dance and aerobic elements inspired by Latin American and Caribbean music and choreography. Zumba was led by certified zumba instructors Dee Moyer, Amy Swisher, and April Cox who graciously volunteered their time and kept the zumba participants

energized. There were also

activities for children, including a magician, carnival games, and food. In addition, lo-cal businesses were present at the event

selling their products and services.

“The purpose of this event was to raise community awareness about The Free Clinic of Rockingham County and the services that we provide, while helping our organization raise funds that will allow us to continue to pro-vide quality healthcare services for our community,” said Tamisha Keith, Development Director. “Clinic Carnival ties in with the vision of The Clinic because it is an event that is open to the community,

family friendly, and promotes healthy living.”

Individuals and businesses supported the event through tax deductible sponsorships. There were three different sponsorship levels: Salsa sponsors who donated $500 or more, Merengue Sponsors who donated $250 and Samba sponsors who do-nated $100. The Free Clinic of Rockingham County would like to thank everyone that participated in this event and all of our sponsors for the generosity and continued support of our organization.

Meet the Development Director

Hello friends! My name is Tamisha Keith and I am the new development director for the Free Clinic of

Rockingham County (FCRC). I am so happy to be a member of the Free Clinic of Rockingham County

family and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the success of the organization.

I am a resident of Greensboro, but I have been working in Rockingham County for the past two years

as a Representative Payee, managing the social security benefits of residents throughout Rockingham

County and surrounding counties. Previously, I worked at The Enrichment Center in Winston-Salem, a

nonprofit organization that advocates for individuals with developmental disabilities. At the Enrich-

ment Center, I wore many hats. I originally worked as the Director of Community Outreach where I

was responsible for developing a marketing campaign for the Community Relations Department and

maintained the organization’s membership database. I also led the United Way workplace cam-

paign, wrote and edited a monthly newsletter, and was responsible for recruiting and training volun-

teers. Furthermore, I assisted in planning the center’s flagship fundraiser Mardi Gras on Marshall

Street.

In earlier experience, I worked in Washington D.C. at Project 2000 Inc., with the Washington Area

Lawyers for the Arts, and the Pension Rights Center. I earned my law degree from Indiana University

School of Law and I also attended Florida A&M University for my undergraduate studies where I

majored in Political Science.

I look forward to continuing the fundraising initiatives that have been instrumental in The Clinic’s suc-

cess as well as developing new projects and raising awareness about the great services offered at

The Free Clinic of Rockingham County. This is an exciting time of growth for The Clinic and I look for-

ward to being a part of its burgeoning success!

In June of this year we received a letter from a patient expressing his gratitude

for our services. This patient was referred to us through the Congregational Nurse

Program, a specialized nursing practice established as a collaborative relationship

between Cone Health and the faith communities of Rockingham County. The Free

Clinic of Rockingham County began collaborating with The Congregational Nurse

Program in January of this year as a pilot program to meet the healthcare needs of

the homeless and Hispanic populations of Rockingham County. The patient stated in

the letter that he was living in a homeless shelter where he received blood

pressure checks and flu shots from the staff of Congregational Nurses Program. He

stated that he was advised by the nurses of the program to seek medical attention

with The Free Clinic of Rockingham County where he had a through check up and has

now made our facility his medical home. “Knowing that [The Free Clinic of

Rockingham County] is available to me when health issues arise gives me much

comfort.”
