THE Friday FLIER
KOTAHITANGA
Waikato Waldorf School, Kindergartens and Playcircle
Dear Waikato Waldorf Community
What an amazing carnival! The sense of community spirit was tangible and it was wonderful to see so many
people involved and working closely together. I know many of you were working flat out but I hope you were
able to take a moment to soak up the wonderful atmosphere that you created. I have had many glowing reports
from people outside of the community, commenting on what an incredible event this was. A particular thank
you goes to our dedicated PA group (and their families!) for their wonderful organization. I know we need more
parents to join the PA and this is a fantastic way to get to know people and make a big difference to the com-
munity. Many thanks once again to you all!
This week our Class 7 & 8 went out to the Waikato Museum to see the fascinating exhibition on Archimedes
and participate in their education program. Everyone came back buzzing and the feedback from the museum
staff about the way our students engaged and behaved was outstanding. Looking forward to hearing more
about your trip!
Here is the fourth and final Strategic and Annual Aim for this year. As you can see we continue to move for-
ward in a very focused and positive way building on our good practices and enriching our special character.
Finally I would like to acknowledge all our staff who have been working extremely hard to prepare for our ERO inspection
next week. We have an amazing highly professional team who I have the great fortune to work with!

Autumn Festival
Foodbank Collection
With Autumn comes the time to harvest and store food. This is also a good time to remember those less fortunate. Last year our school collected our best ever amount of food for the Hamilton Combined Food-bank, and this year we would like to do even better!
In the next few weeks before Autumn Festival, we would like to encourage every child to donate one or more items to the Food -bank collection. Items can be taken directly to your child's class.
Items donated could be:
Tinned or dried fruit, vegetables
Cereals
Flour, sugar
Pasta, rice
Jam, honey, peanut butter etc.
Sauces
Milk powder, coconut cream
Also...
Toothpaste, Toilet paper, Soap, Laundry powder
No perishable or pre-opened items please.
Many thanks
Waikato Waldorf Fundraising Group
Now I know it doesn’t need to be said but…..Hand washing is one of the BEST and
most EFECTIVE ways of stopping germs.
Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting
sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are spread by
NOT washing hands with soap and clean, running water.
Not washing hands after using the toilet is a great way to transfer harmful bacteria to
others. A single gram of human faeces—which is about the weight of a paper clip—
can contain one trillion germs-Yuck!!
With the winter season germs have an easy time of it, coughing, sneezing here we
come. People frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth without even realizing it.
Germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose and mouth and make us sick.
Germs from unwashed hands can be transferred to other objects, like handrails, table
tops, or toys, and then transferred to another person’s hands.
Removing germs through hand washing therefore helps prevent diarrhoea and respir-
atory infections and may even help prevent skin and eye infections.
So take the time to wash your hands with soap and water and dry them thoroughly.
A rule of thumb is to sing Happy Birthday through twice then you can be assured of a
job well done and clean hands!
