PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

This is the first time I have had the honour and privilege of writing to you as your President.

As is tradition and certainly in the future, my comments will focus on current market conditions and profession focused initiatives, but today and in the midst of the third wave of the COVID event, I wanted to share another thought:

Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it; it is about our Attitude.

Attitude to me is more important than facts; it will make or break an individual, a home, or a community, and the remarkable thing is that we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day.

COVID-19 presents an opportunity for each of us to display kindness, unity, and a spirit of community. I believe that together we will be victorious and as this chapter of history unfolds, it is my hope that we will all become stronger, because together we achieve more.

It is about our attitude.

Doug RempelPresident, Niagara Association of REALTORS®[email protected]

Why do I see duplicate listings on REALTOR.ca?

How listings move about can seem to be a mystery to many. One question that arises occasionally is "Why is a listing shown twice on REALTOR.ca?"

When you load a listing into Matrix on the ITSO system, your listing is seen by REALTORS® and clients of 22 Ontario Boards (soon to be 23 with the immanent addition of the Kingston and Area Real Estate Association). Your listing is subsequently sent to REALTOR.ca, and this transfer happens within 15 minutes of the listing being made active, or changes being made to the listing.

Some REALTORS® have made the business decision to become FULL Members of multiple Boards, in particular TRREB. If a member who is a dual FULL member of an ITSO Board AND TRREB chooses to load a listing in both Matrix and Stratus (TRREB's MLS® System), both those listings go to REALTOR.ca, thus the duplicate listing.

It must be noted that duplicates on REALTOR.ca do not provide any additional exposure for the seller as both listings are for the same property and shown at the same location on the REALTOR.ca map. The one difference is that ITSO (Matrix) listings are far richer in the data and available descriptions sent to REALTOR.ca, and thus present much better.

The primary benefit of either becoming a FULL Member of TRREB, or InterBoarding with TRREB is the additional exposure to TRREB agents. We know currently there are potential buyers interested in Niagara properties from the Toronto area. By InterBoarding with TRREB, you will provide your clients with the widest possible exposure in Southern Ontario.

This goes both ways. It would be equally important for TRREB REALTORS® who are listing a property in Niagara to InterBoard with NAR. This doesn't always occur, and regrettably we can't force a TRREB REALTOR® to do this, but I can attest that our MLS® department is quite busy with InterBoards from TRREB REALTORS®

If you have any further questions regarding this topic, please don't hesitate to email me: [email protected]

NewsProspects Update

The latest release of Prospects Mobile brings the much-awaited Pending Price to the application.

Previously, when a listing was Pending, it would display the last list price and users

would need to login to Matrix to identify what the Sold Price was.

With this update, users will

no longer need to juggle between the systems for that information.

Announcing the Lockbox Swap Program

The Niagara Association of REALTORS® is pleased to announce we are facilitating an ongoing "Member-to-Member" Lockbox exchange and sale program.

Please note the Association is NOT buying back these lockboxes. It is for Members to assist other Members.

For REALTORS® looking to sell extra Lockboxes they no longer need, please contact NAR with your contact info, how many Lockboxes you are looking to sell, asking price and whether they are new or used. You can send this information to [email protected] or call the office at (905) 684-9459.

If you are looking to purchase a lockbox from another REALTOR®, contact Anna Burdzinski : [email protected] or call the office at (905) 684-9459.

NAR will post the list of available lockboxes weekly on the Matrix Message of the Day. We kindly ask that those selling lockboxes contact our office so that we can update our records. Should you sell all your lockboxes, we will remove your name from the list. Lockbox prices are to be negotiated between buyer and seller.

We hope this initiative allows Members with excess, unused lockboxes the opportunity to help others in need of additional ones. Any questions can be directed to [email protected]
