During the evening's visit they discovered that each had fqtnre plans entirely unknown to ,the other.

Mr. Bennett, who already owned land adjoining the railjl'oau, was about to add a line of bUilding supplies to his plumbing business which, in iliose times, included a masonry septic tank and the drainage field.

Mr. Rowe could see ·advantage in buying lumbe·r in car lots for his bUilding operations. Then too, each hoped to add volume tq the new ventures by selling to the public.

As the evening advanced, this little visit turned to serious business. If they had lumber and builders' supplies, why not hardware and paint and complete the line?

As always with younger people the matter of finance loomed big.

These are the men who have made Delmar Lumber great: Left to right, Scotty Rowe, Bob Jackson, Dan Bennett and Al Rowe. The two latter were the founders of the business. See story.

Having been fna.ndly since childhood, it was suggested that they. pool resources on a SO-SO basis; a condition still existing between the two families.

The early houI'S of the next morning fOWld anew, unnamed business determined to find its place in the Delmar area.

A young lawyer, William J. Comstock, prepared the legal matters, a name was decided upon, the corporation formed, and the Delmar Lumber & Builders' Supply, Inc. opened for business on April I, 1929 in a space 12 ft. by 36 ft. in ilie prese~ D.
