accompanied by a member while on Club property – No Exceptions!!

I want to remind everyone of the importance of filing out the
member survey that is now available. The board genuinely cares
about what members want to see happen at RRRC and this is a convenient way for you to let us know how we can best serve our membership and what direction to take for the future. Please don’t let this opportunity pass you by. You can use
the paper survey that is included with this newsletter or you can go online and do it there. Detailed instructions can be
found in this newsletter.
Since there has been a large decrease in the amount of property damage in the past year, the board has decided to try a new
incentive to help some people stop shooting things they should not shoot. We are going to operate on the assumption that if we give people a variety of steel targets to shoot then maybe we can kill two birds with one shot, so to speak. Members will
have more options to shoot and those that have not be able to resist shooting things like target poles, rocks, etc., will no longer
feel the need.
We are now in the process of planning and acquiring steel targets for both B and C Ranges. These targets will be of quality construction and designed to be shot safely when used properly. The B Range targets are intended to be shot only with pistols.
The targets on C Range will be of a higher grade of armor plate and will be placed at greater distances so that they may be shot with rifles. Please use these steel targets properly. There are no steel targets that cannot be punctured if that is what someone
is determined to do. But these will be there for everyone’s enjoyment, so please go easy on them. As long as they appear to be
enjoyed without being abused we will try to expand the number and think of other types of targets that can be made available.
One last thing. Steel targets can be great fun but must be used properly to prevent injury. Always remember to stand a
reasonable distance from steel pistol targets to minimize the chance of being struck by ricochet or splatter. There is plenty of information about this on-line so read up. You may be surprised. Also, we ask that any steel target brought to the range be of
quality manufacture, intended for the purpose used and mounted properly. There has been a recent incident where we have repeatedly found where someone has leaned steel plate against rocks and shot it. This is asking for a dangerous ricochet and is
against club policy.
Thanks, Charlie
TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
NRA Pistol / Concealed Carry Class – August 15 & 16, 2015
9:00 AM until 5 PM on Saturday & 9:00 AM until 4 PM on Sunday with Range Time on both days.
The more range time you have, the better your grasp of the fundamentals of shooting.
Don’t settle for less - your life could depend on it!
These two courses are for both the beginner and the experienced shooter, and satisfies the requirements by the state of Virginia for a concealed carry permit. You will learn NRA Shooting Basics including safety, marksmanship, nomenclature, cleaning, shooting sports, and more. The Concealed Carry part of this class covers “The Five Rules for Concealed Carry,” where to carry and where NOT to carry, the “Three A’s”, what type of handgun you are best suited to carry, types of carry holsters, how to get your permit, plus more range time giving you an opportunity to shoot a variety of handguns that may help you decide what is best for you.
Pre-registration is required. The cost for this class is $130 and includes handguns and ammunition. A $20 deposit is needed before the class to secure your enrollment. You are encouraged to bring your own handguns and ammunition, as well. For additional information on this 2-day course, please call Rod Carter or Beth Christopoulos on (540) 989–1776.

Utah Concealed Carry Firearm Permit Training
Virginia and 35 other states recognize the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. That widespread recognition makes it good to have as an interstate traveler. Utah permit holders may legally carry while driving through many contiguous states. Those who plan on carrying out of state may find it very useful to have this as a second permit.
The 4-hour class required to apply for this permit will be offered at the RRRC clubhouse. Interested applicants should already hold a Virginia Concealed Carry Permit and have completed NRA First Steps Pistol or an equivalent pistol class. All neces-sary materials will be furnished. Club members and non-members are welcome.
Cost is $55.00. Next course date is: August 9 - Please note the date change. Class time: 2:00–6:00 pm. Remaining dates for 2015 are: 8/30, 9/27, 10/18, 11/8, 11/29 and 12/20
Please contact Charles Woolwine at [email protected] for details.
Every year we are faced with members who claim that work hours were not made available to them. For this
reason, we will be posting assignments as they become available throughout the year to ensure that all mem-
bers are aware of these opportunities. Please contact me for further information regarding any of the listed
positions, or to discuss duties in further detail. Assignments will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Jackie Lapradd - 540-797-3961 - [email protected] (I DO NOT ANSWER “BLOCKED” OR “UNKNOWN” CALLS!)
It’s hard to believe but we are now halfway through 2015. The warm weather has brought with it a large number of members
signing up to get in their hours before all of the positions are filled, so if you still need your work hours, I would strongly
encourage you to go ahead and take the time to sign up before it is too late.
SASS MATCH
Ladies and Gentlemen. The 2015 SASS State Championship Match is almost upon us! I know that many members
like to get their annual hours by working this match due to the friendly atmosphere, so please give me a call to discuss dates
and times. New members are also welcomed, and encouraged, to sign up to work the event.
NOTE: Unless you have spoken with Coordinators Tom Wills (540.890.6375) or Dan Drewry
(540.890.5162), or myself, DO NOT assume you have been scheduled to work. If you simply show
up without getting on the roster, you will likely find yourself with no need for your assistance.
ROAD AND RANGE MONITORS
This program has truly done wonders in improving the relationship between the Club and our neighbors. We routinely
receive calls from them thanking us for our efforts in keeping the dust down and vehicles within the speed limit. In addition,
the monitors have done an excellent job of ensuring range rule compliance as well as catching non-members attempting to
use the facility while the gate is open during matches.
Please take a moment and consider signing up to help keep the program running. Most participants have found it a very
enjoyable and low impact way of getting their required hours while performing a vital service for the Club’s well-being.
**GUN SHOW**
We have a last minute opening for the upcoming Gun Show. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to call.
Positions are still available through December so please don’t hesitate to call to discuss duties and availability.

MATCH NEWS
August is classifier month!
Hopefully the weather will better than last year and we won’t have another “Puddle Duck Classic” classifier. The classifier
will be broken down into 7 mini-stages, and concealment will be optional. In addition, if you are shooting a gun that is IDPA-
legal in multiple divisions you can use your match score to classify in those divisions. For example, if you are shooting a stock
Glock 21 (.45 ACP) in CDP, your match score can be used to record classifier scores for SSP and ESP. If you wish to take
advantage of this, there will be an extra column on the registration form for additional classifier divisions. September and October will be regular matches, and November will be the annual “Toys for Tots” night match. This year
there will be an additional “Lights and Lasers” division for anyone that wishes to use a laser sight and/or a weapon-mounted
light. Guns equipped with weapon-mounted lights will need to be capable of being holstered and concealed.
Hope to see you at the classifier, Simon LeRay, Match Director, [email protected]

July Commonwealth Games was a fun match with a good turnout. A bit
on the warm side but scores were fairly good. At least we don't have hot
shooting coats and hats like the High Power shooters. Next match will be
August 16. Sighters and warm up starts at 8:00, with the first relay at
9:00. We have time to accommodate more shooters, and more target setters are always welcome on the hot
days. For more information call Joe Davis at 540 776 0679 or [email protected]

MATCH NEWS (con’t.)
Bend of Trail Rides Along with Famous Pairs in the Old West
The July BoT match welcomed 30 registered shooters and at least four support personnel who helped with training, targets, and scoring. “This had to be a record number of participants. Can’t remember when we’ve had so many turn out at monthly match.” The weather was beautiful but the temperature and humidity was what they call “seasonal” for July. After filling themselves with complimen-tary biscuits, the posse banged away at targets in sequences which related to the interaction of well-known couples who spiced up the Old West: Annie Oakley and Frank Butler; “Big-Nosed” Kate and Doc Holliday; Kid Curry and the red-haired companion, Annie Rogers.
When the smoke cleared, the fast and steady Doc McWane (Philip Beasly) took the overall honors, followed by: Gun M. Down (Freddie Alderman), Trapper Dan (Dan Drury), and Red Rider Slim (Gary Feazelle), while El Diablo Don (Don Caldwell) finished out the Top 5 places. Top Lady Shooter was Dixie Gunslinger (Lisa Laverty). Four mem-bers of the posse had a clean match (hit all targets in the right order): Doc Keep ‘um, Duke City Marshal, Fiddler Creek Creasy, and Cedar Creek John.
The August BoT match is scheduled for August, 23rd.
The Star City Shootout (Virginia SASS State Match) will
be held September 4,5,6 at RRRC. See

Small Bore – Modified
We will have 2 more matches this year: August 1 and October 3. If you can find .22 ammo, then put it to
some good use! Ammunition allowed is any .22 short, long, or long rifle, Standard or High Velocity. Hyper
Velocity ammo such as Stingers or Vipers may not be used on the silhouettes. They are hard on the steel
targets. If you want to use them on the paper targets, you may. 17 caliber rimfires are not allowed. We will
have classes for scopes (and other optical sights) and iron sights.
This is a fun way to test your skills! Come out on August 1st and give it a try! Those chickens, pigs, geese and rams will be
out there waiting. (Maybe waiting to laugh at you.) Bring the kids! They might be a better shot than you. Hope to see you on Range A on August 1st! Jim Sharrow, 389-9832
HIGH POWER The Commonwealth Games Match was a huge success! We were close to having to
add a second relay. Some new shooters, and some that have been there before. We
have been getting some newbies on occasion, so don't think you will be the only new
shooter on the line! All the fancy equipment is not required, just a decent rifle and
some ammo. We do have some loaner equipment if you give me a heads up in ad-
vance.
We will be at it again on the third Saturday – August 15 – registration around 8:00,
rounds downrange at 9:00.
I hope to see YOU on the range!

Air Rifle/Pistol Range & Matches
If you’re interested in Small Bore, think about shooting an Air Rifle or Pistol as an alternative. Considering the cost and
availability of Rimfire ammunition, this could be a popular alternative to Small Bore. Air guns are getting very popular and
advanced, and are a great way to get kids started shooting – and keep the old kids occupied as well. The Club owns some
target air rifles so if you want to try it, you don’t have to buy something to start. Remember, “It’s not your Grandpas BB
gun anymore!” Give it a try - you might like it! If any members are interested please contact:

of gratitude, Oh, Lord,

for without that spirit,
wisdom will avail us little.”
