The FIADDAis the Italian association of deaf and hard of

hearing people, was founded in 1972 from the families with deaf children and she has the national office in Genoa in Italy.

It has many regional offices in Italy as the one of Turin, Milan, Naples, ecc.

The FIADDA collaborates with Voice European Project of the JRC (Joint Research Centre) in Ispra near Milan since 1996 for the speech recognition system for subtitling.

I'm a member of the local office in COMO near Milan for the Project of the deaf Youth. I was torcher at Paralympic Games in Turin in 2006

The main aims:help the young deaf to integrate in the

school, university, work and life through different solutions, such as subtitling of TV, lessons, conferences, the prayings in the church ecc.

advice the families to choose the speech therapists for children or young people, the cochlear implant or other kind of hearing aid

organizing the national and international conferences about deafness, social inclusion and political norms

The FIADDA projects:activate the subtitling service of lectures with

stenotype machine at different italian universities in Turin, Milan, Rome, Verona, Padua since 2003  

organize screenings to prevent the hearing of the children and control if they are deaf or no at hospital 

collaboration with the Italian Government and the RAI Italian Television for the subtitling contract for many years. 2007: the RAI approved this contract for the 60% of subtitled TV programs because in the past it subtitled only the 20% of them.

The FIADDA projects:Collaboration with the Police and the call

center for the text messages for emergency (a deaf can send the text message to the call center which can call the police or the taxi for meeting their needs)

The FIADDA of COMO near Milan has the Project for the young deaf people, organizing trips in some Italian towns or city for 1-2 days, holidays of a week between deaf people and persons with no-hearing problems in Italy or abroad, local conferences and praying, both subtitled.

Conferences of FIADDA2007: The FIADDA organized 2 important

conferences in Verona and in Rome, both subtitled in real time with stenotype machine. The first one was about TV subtitling, screenings for deaf children and the other is the meeting with two ministers of the Government about the healthy system for the deaf people.

2007: FIADDA of COMO: Anniversary of 25 years´ foundation, subtitled by the respeakers who can hear the talking of the relators, repeat it with a microphone and transform it in subtitles throught speech recognition system at PC

Expectations:For the future The FIADDA wants to extend

the real time subtitling at TV, university, events in all Italy, activate the service of text messages for emergency in many cities and the better information about deafness to persons without hearing problems.

At the end of the workshop in Ankara i'll write a final report and so the FIADDA can collaborate with the European Commission about these themes.
