Bandsmen & Ladies, hope everyone is staying safe during this pandemic. Our first meeting will be on August 3rd. 7:30pm. Stay tuned for a call out on a meal or any other events coming up. We will have a poker tournament in August, date to be set and a call out will also go out for that as well. Illustrious Sir Buddy Grayson has been making the best out of this year and we thank him for his leadership during this time. Almost all fund raisers have been canceled either for the Temple or Units and Clubs. The poker tournament will help us operate for next year. Also, the only major fund raiser for the Temple will be the haunted House. There is a work day planned August 22nd at 8am, lunch to be provided. We will need everyone’s help this year to make it a successful fundraiser. I hope everyone has had a great Summer so far, in these most difficult times we have to look at the good things in life and try not to worry about the things we cannot change. if I may be of service to you please call me. A Ceremonial is scheduled in November, get those petitions in asap please.

OB4LIFE!Patrick Welsh Jr. - President 2014 & 2020912-429-3059

I hope this finds everybody doing well and in good health. There are a couple of our members in need of our prayers George Burnsed and Delma Cowart nothing would be better than to see our friends doing better.

The dreaded Black camel visited our unit recently as we lost two good friends first P.P. Billy Phillips and then Bro. Eddie Sumner this was a devastating loss to our unit. I know this is old information but under the prevailing circumstances this is the first chance I’ve had to mention anything about it. They will both be sourly missed.

The big news is that our Kingfish tournament is still on for August 7th & 8th. It will probably have come and gone before this article is read. Hopefully we made a profit. More info will be forthcoming in our next article.

A giant thank you to the person or persons responsible for cleaning our meeting room. It really looked good. Thanks again!

We did well at Screven Co. Raceway for the “June Jam“ on June 26th and 27th. We thank the track owner for allowing us to do our 50/50 raffle. Which will have come and gone by the time you read this. Thanks to the members that came out and helped for these events it would have been impossible without your help. We are in need of some more of our members to take an interest in this project and come out and help us. It’s good to interact with the fans and pick at each other. Some of y’all please give it a try because we could really use the help.

The Parents of our Unit’s adopted child sent us a note of thanks for showing an interest in their son Henson.

According to our leaders, masks are an option at Temple events although we need to be cautious when in a crowd.

It is my understanding that the ladies restroom facilities are still under renovation at the time of this writing and hopefully they will be completed soon.

It is my understanding that the Circus, auction and feed the Soldiers have been canceled and only the “ten grand party” and “haunted house” are still on and there is a haunted house work day scheduled for Aug. 22 at 0800 so please try to come out and lend a hand.

SASA event is still on in Myrtle Beach so try to make your reservations asap if there are any rooms left at the Landmark Hotel because of other events scheduled for the same time.

I hope I haven’t given y’all bogus information because no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to get everything going on in our meetings.

So long until next time and if anyone has been overlooked, left out or otherwise forgotten please forgive me, I wasn’t intentional and let’s remember the burned and cripple children along with those less fortunate than ourselves in our Prayers. Yours Truly

Augusta Go-Cart Unit

Hello Nobles and Ladies of the Augusta Shrine Club Go-Cart Unit. What a pleasure it is to be back at the keyboard to help keep you informed. We were able to have our first meeting July 15th, since this started. Do to the timeline for articles to be turned in, I wasn’t able to share any information discussed at the meeting in this article, but you can bet, I will catch you up next time.

On behalf of Captain James Paugh and myself, we hope the entire membership of the Augusta Shrine Club Go-Cart Unit, Alee Shrine and Shriners International are staying safe and doing well. 2020 has been some kind of year so far and I could have never imagined in my life, our world would be the way it is. Please continue to pray for our country, our men/women in uniform, both military and law enforcement and the leaders of this great country. Let’s also continue to pray for our front line workers who are working nonstop to help treat and cure the horrible pandemic that has many shut in or struggling with the illness.

If you are interested in visiting our meetings, we meet on the third Wednesday of each month at the Augusta Shrine Club 1826 Phinizy Road Augusta, Georgia. We eat at 7:00pm and we meet at 8:00pm. Ladies are always welcome. We usually have a wonderful meal prepared by Maw Beth, who is a fabulous cook. If you would like to visit our meeting, please call our Secretary, Clyde Bowie P.P. at 706-945-7377 to make sure we have enough food to go around.

If you have not paid your 2020 Augusta Shrine Club Go-Cart Unit dues, please contact Captain Paugh or myself. If you have a hardship, please let us know so we can help. Remember Shriner’s helping each other!

On behalf of our Captain, Noble James Paugh, he would like to thank you for all those who come out, ride, support and work on the carts to keep them going. Let’s keep the tires burning and the carts between the ditches in 2020, VISION WITH A PURPOSE.

Clyde Bowie, P.P.Secretary

IronKnights

Hello all,Well the Covid has put a damper on all of us

in the Shrine. Our Annual Iron Butt Ride has to be postponed once more. New Orleans is on lockdown and doesn’t look to be opening up any time soon. We are planning a ride that starts and ends in Savannah. Not as exciting but we still get to do our ride for the kids and that’s what it’s all about. This year’s donations are going towards a new van for the roadrunners so that they can safely and comfortably carry our kids to get the treatments they need. Well that’s all we got for now remember to keep it shiny side up and as always,

RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!!!!!!!

2020 Vision with Purpose

Nobles and Ladies of Alee, it has been a while since my last article. I am so glad to back at the keyboard to let you know what is going on at Shriners Hospital for Children Greenville.

We as the Board of Directors have been conducting our meetings virtually since the pandemic started in order to conduct hospital business while keeping the meetings informative but short. Our

virtual meetings will continue through August. As you know Imperial and the Board of Trustees suspended transportation of children to our

hospitals via vans by Road Runners for a couple of months but has since allowed them to start transporting our children to their appointments again, if all criteria has been met from a check list

that has been sent to the head of the Road Runners. Alee Shrine Temple has referred 25 patients through May of 2020. Total Referrals from Temple Areas

As you see for the numbers above, all Shrine Temples are continuing to work hard to locate and refer children to SHC Greenville. I want to thank all the Nobles and Ladies of Alee for all your

efforts to continue sending children to the hospital that will benefit from our services. The Hospital continues taking small steps toward full operation. Our operating rooms are getting

back to normal schedules. Should be you need to visit, upon your arrival at SHC Greenville, you will be directed where to go to have a screening done before you enter the hospital. The small steps are being taken to help ensure the health and safety of visitors, patients and staff. Please

take a moment to pray for our hospital Administration and Staff which has tirelessly worked putting preventative measures in place to allow us to continue providing our services to children. They do

all this while continuing to operate under budget! In the month of July, the hospital kicked off the campaign to raise $5000.00 to send our Hospital

Ambassador, Lilly to the Shriners Invitational in Las Vegas in October. This donation will assist her with travel expenses. If any Alee Unit or Club would like to make a donation, please send them to

the SHC Greenville Standard Bearer Campaign. Some awesome news to share about our Telehealth Program. Our hospital Chief of Staff, Dr.

Michael Wattenbargar shared, your Greenville Hospital is third in the system for Established Telehealth Patients and Total Telehealth Patients and first in the system for New Telehealth

Patients. What a great job by our hospital staff!Your Greenville Hospital Board, Administrators and Staff assure you, we refuse to let our guard

down and continue to work hard to provide the best quality care available for children and keep cost down, while, continuing to operate under budget and meeting or exceeding all goals set by Corporate Office in Tampa. Your Greenville Hospital has a great looking future and we will

continue providing first class care to children for many years to come. Noble’s, on behalf of Board Chairman, Timothy Ludwig and the entire Board, we want to thank

you for all the support Alee Shrine has given Shriners Hospitals for Children Greenville!

Respectfully Submitted,Clyde Bowie, P.P.Member, Board of Directors, Shriner’s Hospital’s for Children Greenville

2016, 2017 & 2018 Club of the Year

Parade Club of the Year 2018It sure was nice to get together as a club

again. We had our first meeting in June with a great in-person turnout as well as several participants via “Zoom”. Ever since the “social embargo” was first instituted we have tried to stay in touch with each other and keep an eye out for one another, and there have been a few small get togethers involving a couple of Nobles and their Ladies. Plus we have depended heavily on social media. But we all looked forward to the day we could meet again on both a work and social basis. There wasn’t much substance to our first meeting, but it sure was great to see everyone.

The social embargo (my description of the pandemic affects) affected all of us in different ways but we now look forward to planning for the rest of 2020 and into 2021. We are planning for the worst and hoping for the best with cautious optimism. We have cancelled our annual golf tournament and Scarecrow Stroll but are still planning our annual Pumpkin Patch in October. We are really hopeful that SASA and all Alee Temple fall activities are able to happen as planned.

We would like to throw out a special thanks to Lady Kathi Ruiz and Lady Brandi Castano. Even though the club house has not been used for a few months now, they took it upon themselves to decorate the interior in a patriotic theme for Independence Day. Well done ladies, it looks great! If there were other ladies involved, please forgive my omission of their mention – my “sometimers” disease has kicked in.

We think it is unfortunate that the Potentate and Unit/Club presidents have been robbed of their opportunity to excel as leaders this year, all because of Covid-19. Another way to optimistically look at this is that maybe this situation is a test of leadership abilities. Keeping a club/unit/temple together and focused during an unprecedented time can be a challenge, especially when you do not know what tomorrow brings. Hats off to all our elected leaders and prayers for your success in a difficult year. As Noble Jimmy Shanken recently reminded us with a Facebook post: “As the tide ebbs and flows twice daily, this too shall pass”.

Please be safe, cautious, and protective of your loved ones. We look forward to seeing all of you as soon as this pandemic “embargo” is over.

Alee Haunted HouseHello boils & ghouls,

This year Illus Sir Buddy Grayson is asking all Nobles 7 Ladies to help this year with the HH, our only major fundraiser going on. There will be a major work day on the back section of the haunt, the maze on August 22, at 8am. We need to secure and make all repairs so we may be able to open in October. Lunch will be provided. Please come we will find something for you to do. Concerns are if we will be able to open, and what are we planning to help keep everyone safe and take all precautions to be able to open. I am working on a Covid plan with some major Haunts in the country to be able to try and take the steps necessary for a successful and safe Haunt year.

Dates, times, rules, and the Covid plan, etc. will be in the September issue of the Fez. Again, at this time we are planning to open. We are asking all Clubs and Units to donate to our project this year. Here is the break down and incentives for helping sponsor the HH this year: $250 will get you 25 FREE $10 tickets for your guests. $500 will get you $25 FREE $10

tickets, your name on the sponsored banner, and we will hang your Club or Units banner on the chain link fence. Any Club or Unit donating more than $500 will be contacted for some exciting incentives to share with your members, there will also be a plaque for the most money sponsored for each Club & Unit, 2nd place Unit & Clubs and an overall 1st place Plaque.

You may ask the community to sponsor however we are not hitting them as hard as we have in the past. Due to the Covid pandemic. However, if they wish to donate, we will take all donations they are able to provide. If you have a business who would like to sponsor the HH please have them contact me.

Let’s have a great HH this year and have some fun!

Frightfully yours,Patrick Welsh, Jr.Scaremaster [email protected]

2020 Vision with Purpose

StatesboroShrine Club

Greetings Nobles and Ladies,The nobles in the Statesboro Shrine Club

wish all of the Alee nobles and ladies well. The corona virus knows no boundaries and is no respecter of persons. The nasty virus is simply in search of another human to be its host.

As we regroup and plan the rest of 2020, we hope and pray that our fellow nobles and ladies keep the good and better health of the many children in our children’s hospitals in the forefront of their activities.

We are thankful for the leadership of our divan. We especially appreciate the excellent communications we receive from the temple. We like being in the loop on the temple activities and improvements even though many of us cannot participate.

Yours truly,Noble Tony Phillips

I am elated to be back keeping all Nobles and Ladies of Waynesboro up to date with information from your club and temple. Our members were able to have our first meeting in June since this pandemic started and Lady Leanne and myself were elated to see and fellowship with each and every member that came. We sure have missed all of ya’ll. It sure seems as if it has been a long time since we have been able to meet and enjoy the company of each other.

I was so glad to be able to attend the presidents meeting in Savannah on Monday July 6, 2020. I had a wonderful time and was glad to be able to fellowship with the Nobles of Alee. The Alee Shrine Ceremonial has been moved to November 13-15, 2020 at the temple and could possibly see some changes due to the pandemic. There will be more information in the coming months. As you can imagine, temple Income is way down and with that being said the temple is doing good considering what has taken place over the past few months.

I would like to give a shout out to Noble Frank Lackman for helping the Temple sell the last 20 boxes of candy. Noble Lackman continues to assist our temple by selling approximately 76 boxes each year.

On a sad note, after much deliberation, with members of the Department of Health and the Leadership of Waynesboro Shrine Club it has been decided, with great regret, the Annual Farm Fest, sponsored by Waynesboro Shrine Club will be canceled for 2020. It is just too risky during these unprecedented and unpredictable times to hold such a wonderful event for people to gather for fellowship, food and entertainment. We want to thank all our vendors, sponsors and attendees who support our event each and every year. We look forward to being able to hold the event in 2021.

Nobles and Ladies, Lady Leanne and myself hope all are doing well and staying safe. We ask that you please take a moment to say a prayer for our men/women in uniform, the leaders of this great nation and especially those front line workers, who are working tirelessly to treat and cure the pandemic that has so many of our brothers and sisters shut in and struggling with this disease. If we have any members who are shut in and need anything, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Lady Leanne and we will be glad to assist in any way we can.

As President, I would like to invite all Shriners and Ladies to come by and visit our club. If you know of someone who is interested in becoming a member of our great fraternity, bring them out and let them see firsthand what we are all about. We meet the third Thursday of each month. We eat at 7:00 pm and meet at 8:00 pm. We usually have a mouthwatering grilled steak, baked potato, salad and dessert but you never know what you will get to eat at Waynesboro. Just know it will be great food!

Members, if you have not paid your 2020 dues for the club, please contact our secretary, Noble Jimmy Allen at 706-551-727. If you are unable to pay due to a hardship, please let our secretary know so we can help. Brothers helping brothers.

Please stop by and see what’s going on in the Bird Dog Capital of the World and see in 2020, VISION WITH A PURPOSE!

Fraternally yours,Clyde Bowie, P.P.

WSC President

Our President, Noble Ernie Martin hopes all members of the Augusta Shrine Club Golf Unit, Alee Shrine and Shriners International are doing well and staying safe during these unpredictable and unprecedented times.

Noble and Ladies, I am so glad to be doing articles again to keep you informed. In July we were able to have our first meeting of the Golf Unit but due to the timeline for articles to be turned in, I was unable to put anything in this article that was discussed. I will share more next month. It was a pleasure for Lady Leanne and myself to see everyone who was able to attend. It seems like it has been so long since we have been able to fellowship.

On behalf of President, Noble Ernie Martin we would like to invite all Nobles and Ladies to come and participate in the Augusta Shrine Club Golf Unit’s Annual Tournament. The tournament will be held October 10, 2020, start time 8:30 am at the beautiful Applewood Golf Course in Burke County, Georgia. If you would like to be sponsor, please contact any member of the golf unit for information or President Martin at 706-830-0188. Hole sponsorships are available for $100.00. Lunch may or may not be provided depending on the restrictions caused by the pandemic. There will be plenty of snacks for all to enjoy. Your team entry fee of $240.00 can be paid electronically by contacting Applewood Golf Course at (706) 554-0028. We are look forward to another successful event in 2020.

If anyone is the Augusta area and would like to join us for a great game of golf, let’s get together and hit a few rounds. We have a lot of beautiful golf courses to choose from.

On behalf of our Unit President, Noble Ernie Martin come out and be part of the Augusta Shrine Club Golf Unit. We meet on the fourth Thursday of the month, then after the meeting, we usually go to one of the local restaurants for some good food and fellowship. We look forward to you visiting and getting involved in our unit.

Noble’s and Ladies, on behalf of President, Noble Ernie Martin please continue to pray for our great country, our men and women in uniform and the leaders of this great nation. We look forward to using 2020 Vision, with A Purpose, to see you on the greens, with a hole in one!

Clyde Bowie, P.P.Golf Unit Ball Washer

Well the COVID-19 Pandemic changed our Socializing to Social Distancing. During these times we have been limited on participation as a Unit and Brothers in the Shrine. But let it be known that the Director Staff members continued to use their social media to create havoc on those who cannot read. Well the questions are, where do we start? Should we start with the picture of John McPipkin in his work COVID Protective Gear? Looks like he just knocked over a Convenience Store or would it be Brian Dixon telling Ken Rimes Happy Mother’s Day. Is Ken a Mother? Hugh! Or could have been a text from Rick Jones again saying he did not like any of us but one. Well we could not find the one who would admit to liking Rick. Oh, Brock – Rick said it is not you.

Important information – John McPipkin just had a baby boy, or was that his daughter. Congratulations. There were pictures of George ”The Sly Fox” and Weekend Billy Cox. The picture with Luke, Billy and George was removed from the thread because of the suggested improprieties.

The Second Director Staff Social Distancing Party was mentioned, even though not much Social Distancing was noticed, except for Ken Rimes, who is always Social Distanced. Brian Dixon professed to be the best looking at the party. That my friend was not a hard title to obtain, judging by those who attended. Thanks to Brock & Gwen. Can’t figure why they did not invite Ed & Susanna. I was asked not to mention the First Social. It seems that both Socials seriously depleted the Units Treasury.

Oh, forgot about the boat trip by MM, LC, DG, LB, BM, & KR on their supposed trip to Jekyll Island. Sources close say the trip was actually to Cuba. Just another click.

2019 Shrine Club of the YearGreetings from the Jesup Shrine Club,

Hello all! It has been too long since we have all seen each other. Hopefully and prayerfully all of Alee is well. We can’t wait to see everyone soon! The last article was just before the Potentate and Divan Visit in Jesup. We are very thankful to have been able to host for the best of all of Shrinedom, our Illustrious Potentate Buddy Grayson, his lovely wife Laura, and our wonderful Divan and their beautiful ladies. It was a great night with great food and decorations. Thank you to all who came and for all who made the visit possible.

Also, just before “the virus” shut everything down, we were able to host the 2nd Annual Jesup Shrine Club Steak Cookoff. The cookoff was a success and we would like to thank every Noble and Lady who had a part in it. We are also very thankful that Potentate Buddy Grayson and Lady Laura, as well as the Divan and their Ladies were able to spend some time with us and show their support.

We got the word that we could meet again, finally! We had our first meeting since Covid-19 started on July 9. It was great to see some of our friends again. We are looking forward to getting together to go to Myrtle Beach for SASA in September!

Next time I’ll be able to tell you all about the Regulators Unit Cornhole Tournament that is happening on July 11th. I am sure it will be a huge success!

Great things are happening in Jesup Shrine Club!

Looking forward to seeing you all very soon! Be safe and stay well!

Best regards,The Jesup Shrine Club

Tampa Hospital Representative

Greetings Nobles and Ladies. The Tampa Hospital is making great strides as the changes take place thru out Shriners healthcare. Now known as Shrine children. Our affiliation with the University of Florida Gainesville is really heading in the right direction. Providing care for our children in FLA and Georgia. Even with this pandemic our board of Governors are meeting by phone and continuing to provide for the operation of our great facility and looking toward the future of our great philanthropy. We are looking more into telemedicine and having great success in that area. Also looking forward to improving relations with other care facilities and research institutions for our greatest treasure, Our Children. If I can be of service at any of your functions please contact me. I am your Tampa BOG Representative. As always, your friend in the faith.Ken

Hospital Crusade 2020 Hello and Greetings Nobles and Ladies. I

hope upon reading this article you are healthy and covid free. It has been an honor serving as your hospital crusade chairman this year despite the unfortunate circumstances in which we are faced. Earlier this year I was able to travel and visit with various clubs and units to speak about the wonderful ideas we have for the Alee Hospital Crusade in 2020. Due to social distancing, I had to stop traveling and was unable to visit with the majority of our shrine family. For that, I apologize.

One of the new ideas we have is to catch up back dated Hospital Crusade Plaques by making a donation for this year only. The plaque sale has been a proven “money maker” for many decades and we want to ensure to be successful for years to come. However, due to economic downfall, Illustrious Sir Buddy Grayson has given us permission to GIVE our donors their 2020 decal and NOT expect a donation. Never turn down a donation if a person is willing to give, but by giving them this year’s decal, we are simply thanking them for their support in the past and asking for their continued support in the future. If a person wishes to begin a new plaque for the first time, it is still a minimum donation of $100. Remember, we are not selling anything but asking for a donation and giving them something to show. The Alee Hospital Crusade isn’t only about raising money for our children. It is very important to represent this organization in a positive manor and be the best Shriner you can be. No good deed goes unrewarded.

Another idea we have is the “THOUSANDAIRE” PROGRAM. This means if a noble, by individual effort, raises $1000 dollars for the Hospital Crusade, he will be recognized as a Thousandaire. He would be rewarded with a nice baseball style hat to show for his service. Because of covid 19, we have cut our Hospital Crusade budget and will not be able to issue the hats. However, we cannot allow this pandemic to completely stop us from raising money for the burned and crippled children in our hospitals. I highly encourage each of you to continue to do your best raising money. For those who reach Thousandaire status, your name will be featured in the upcoming FEZ publications for this year.

Because of the economic downfall, please be careful and mindful when asking for donations, as for many businesses are struggling financially. Especially restaurants, hotels, and bars. There are many other strategies we can use to raise money and awareness besides what we have done before. I’m asking you to be creative and come up with new innovative ideas. We can work around these trying times and continue to be successful in supporting the world’s greatest philanthropy.

Thank you again for all you do!! HELP CAN’T WAIT

WAYNE EASONHospital Crusade Chairman 2020

Well we are back to it. It has been a tough few months with the COVID-19 pandemic going on, but we are survivors and know how to take care of ourselves. We all practiced washing hands, using sanitizer consistently, wear our facemask and staying away from large crowds keeping a 6 feet distance. Now that things are easing up we can start fellowshipping with our Brothers in Lodges, Shrine Clubs/Units and other Masonic Bodies, but practicing social distance. I really believe this is going to be the new norm, but it is for our safety and those around us. Our Potentate Ill Sir Buddy Grayson has set some guidelines taken from the Grand Master of Georgia Johnie Garmon how we have to conduct our meetings in a safe manner. Zoom meetings are coming to be the new norm for meetings lately, they are sure fun when everyone starts talking at the same time, nothing but laughter. Zoom meetings are great to help us stay in touch but it is always good to see our Brother Nobles face to face, because that is the bond we have when we became Master Masons and it continued over when we became Shriners. Brother Nobles never lose that desire to continue to be Brothers, stay strong, stay healthy, and most of all be encourage. “For the joy of the Lord is your Strength” Nehemiah 8:10

If you’re a sitting Worshipful Master or Past Master and desire to become a member come join us with your family we would be glad to have you for some fun and fellowship. We meet on every fifth Thursday; dues are $5.00 per year or $100.00 for Life Member, please see our Secretary Noble Dave Armstrong Jr. Guest and families are always invited and welcomed.

First Lady Laura’s Message

Well Hello Nobles,

What a great day it is to be an Alee Shriner! I truly love being able to say that as the Potentate of the number one Shrine Center. We are Alee strong because of the Nobles, Ladies, and Families of Alee and their hard work ethic and ability to always come together for a common goal. We are so fortunate to live in the greatest nation in the world and even with the current events going on, I am confident that we will pull through and be stronger as a nation as well. We are indeed in unprecedented times in 2020 and how we act and react will set the tone for many years to come. As one Nation Under God and one brotherhood of Master Masons under the direction of the Grand Architect of the Universe, we must remember our brothers while on bended knee and help when needed. I have seen and heard of so many heart warming stories of Alee families not only helping one another, but helping other families in need during these unprecedented times. One of the reasons that I became a Master Mason, Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner was my desire to help those less fortunate with time, talent and means. I can tell you that my cup runneth over and I am more blessed each day to have these groups in my life.

It was great seeing everyone in and about the Temple over the last few weeks and I am so happy to be back to some semblance of normal. I want to thank every single noble and lady who checked on me and my family during the crisis of 2020 and I want to assure you that I will do everything in my power to finish the rest of the year strong. I do not take my duties lightly, and I am the luckiest Potentate in the Shrine because I am surrounded by a great and hard-working divan and a strong and supportive Shrine family. Blessings to all.

Hello everyone,

I am so excited to get back into the swing of things and see everyone! I know that there are still a lot of unknowns ahead of us, but I am so proud of our leaders in the temple for making things as safe as possible for us all. One positive to come out of the Temple being closed is that we were able to get a lot of little projects done. I would like to give a big shout out to Deputy Chief Aide Noble John Willis and Lady Kathy for stripping, sanding, and repainting the front hallway doors and walls. It looks amazing! We also started the makeover on the ladies’ bathrooms. Although it will be a few months before total completion I would like to give thanks to those that have had a big hand in the updates. Thank you to Noble Terrance White for getting the materials for the new drop ceiling donated, to Nobel Carl Hendricks, Sr., and Noble Carl Hendricks, II. for installing the ceiling. Chief Aide Noble Steve Cowart for donating the HVAC materials and running vents to keep us cool. Deputy Chief Aide Noble John Willis for helping demo and paint. High Priestess Lady Brenda Loven and Aziza Court 108 for donating the lights. Chief Rabban Freddie Humphries, David Armstrong, II and Brenda Loven for installing the lights. Most of all a Big Thank you to all who

have bought charms and t-shirts and donated money to help with the cost of this project. This is just a start to the acknowledgements, and I know I will have more as the project continues.

It is a great day to be an Alee Shriner!I am very excited to write an article because

it means we are beginning to get back to our new normal. Our first President’s Meeting in months was the first Monday in July. It was well attended, and you could feel the excitement in the air. Everyone is eager to get back into the swing of things and get the business done that we took an oath to fulfill.

I could not write this article without THANKING our Potentate and First Lady. Illustrious Sir Buddy has been encouraging, optimistic and a strong leader during this pandemic. We are a stronger temple for his leadership and strength. And I cannot say enough about Lady Laura’s vision for the lady’s restrooms located in the mosque. Her First Lady’s Project started to come to fruition once we could begin work in the temple. Thanks to the many workers who worked in alternating shifts to abide by the social distancing guidelines. It is not completed but will be a breath of fresh air (literally, as there is now air in the rooms).

Thank you to Illustrious Sir JJ Johns for his work on the Alee Shriners website: aleeshriners.org. And thank you to Lady Colleen for producing the electronic Fez from April to July. She said that she has a much deeper respect and appreciation for Lady Cheri and the hard work involved in creating the FEZ magazine each month.

Welcome to our new tenants Mrs. Linda and Illustrious Sir JJ Johns in the temporary Scottish Rite office located next to the Divan Room. This will be very convenient to attend Scottish Rite meetings while we await the beautiful building that is currently being built in the new location. So, I invite all Scottish Rite members to attend a meeting as we have ample parking.

Looking forward to the fun events coming up and visiting with Nobles and ladies.

Thanks for all the calls, texts, thoughts and prayers for Lady Colleen’s speedy recovery.

Please remember our National leadership, Doctors, Nurses, essential workers, Police, Shrine patients and their families, your Divan and each other on bended knee. If I can be of any assistance, please give me a call.

Yours in the Faith,Freddie L Humphries JrChief Rabban

Hello Nobles,It’s a great day to be an Alee Shriner! It is great to finally start to get back to seeing

our brothers. We had a virtual Imperial Session which was

quite different by far. But we were able to get the business at hand done. The Divan and the Representatives met at the temple to conduct the business.

I pray that all of you and your families stay safe and I am looking forward to seeing everyone around the temple.

Once again don’t forget about our ceremonial coming up in November. Let’s get out and get these Masons to join us on this wonderful journey supporting our Shrine Children.

Don’t forget to support our club and unit fundraisers. Come out if you feel safe to do so.

If I or any of your Divan can be of any help to you please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Remember to attend your Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, and York Rite regularly.

Keep our Shrine Children, our Soldiers, and all of our essential workers in your prayers.

Fraternally yours, Steve T. Lingle, Assistant Rabban

We are looking forward to getting out and visiting all the Clubs and units again. We are all Alee strong. Remember what today is. Yes, it is membership day! Let us make the upcoming ceremonial one of the best. Do not forget to get your teams together for the ceremonial golf tournament. As always, if there is anything that I can do for anyone do not hesitate to call or text me.Please, while on bended knee to remember all the health care workers, doctors, law enforcement, soldiers, and their families.

PIRATESAhoy Me Hearties!Pirate President, Todd L.

Reed here,

First, it is great to be back with my fellow Pirates and Brothers, here at the Alee Shrine.

Want to thank Ladies, Cheri Johns & Colleen

Humphries, for all their hard work during the COVID pandemic and their coordination of the FEZ articles and sending it out electronically for the past few months. Great job ladies!!

We, The Pirates, are looking forward to a great 2nd half of the year.

I would like to thank John & Kathy Willis for their help with painting the entrance doors and hallways at the Temple during the COVID pandemic. Great Job!!

Pirates participated in a “Community Unity” on 19 June. We stopped into downtown Savannah for a few hours educating the community about Shriners by fellowship and dancing on the cobblestones – Wobble on the Cobble. The community enjoyed listening to the music, dancing, and taking advantage of photo ops with the Yelduz II. What a great way for us, as Shriners, to get back out in the community and show them what we are all about.

Pirates 27th Annual Poker Run is coming up in September. Please watch for updates on times, date and location. If you know of anyone that would like to participate, please let us know and we will reach out them. All street legal vehicles are welcome.

Avast, Me Hearties! Till next we meet! “WE ARRR ALEE PIRATES!”

Among the 4Rs of membership development, “Relationships” stand apart as not separately quantifiable. Yet healthy relationships are key to the success of all Retention, Restoration and Recruitment goals. Whether it’s establishing close working ties with Masonic lodges, providing a warm and welcoming environment for current members, or actively reaching out to members when they first “go missing,” developing strong relationship-building skills should be a priority for every temple leader.

As anyone in sales or marketing will tell you, it’s a lot harder to win back a customer who’s walked away than to keep them satisfied in the first place. This is why a temple’s retention efforts are so vital to a successful growth strategy. Your membership team is pleased to provide tools and resources in support of your retention efforts.

When you make the acquaintance of a good man outside the Shriner brotherhood, do you automatically start thinking about getting him fitted for a fez? Such a mindset will help you become a successful recruiter of Mason-Shriners. To aid your quest to bring new faces into the fold for fellowship, fun and philanthropy, your membership team offers a variety of tools and information.

Whether its health concerns, family or work demands, or some issue other, there are many reasons why a Shriner may no longer be active with his temple. Without concerted outreach however, it’s impossible to know a missing noble’s situation. Communication sets the stage to work with suspended brothers so that they may become re-engaged as active Shriners.

A backyard injury introduces new patient to the Greenville Shriners Hospital

It was the last throw of the game when Bella ran through the grass chasing after the ball, twisting her ankle. Unable to bear weight on the injury, it was the end of the day’s fun for the 9-year-old.

“It happened on a Monday, and I thought it was just a sprain that would start to heal,” said her mom, Karina. “By Thursday morning, it wasn’t getting any better. I was very worried about taking her to an emergency room full of sick people. Then I remembered a post I saw from a friend on Facebook about the injury care clinic [at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville], so I gave them a call.”

The clinic, which sees all patients within 48 hours, was able to offer Bella a same-day appointment. Upon arrival, Karina said she was struck by the warm staff and extra COVID-19 safety precautions, including a temperature screening to enter the building and the requirement that everyone wear a mask – which was provided to them.

“We had never been to Shriners Hospital, and Bella had a bad experience at a different hospital before – so she was very nervous at first,” said Karina. “When we walked in, it looked so different and cool. She loved all the animal paintings and sculptures, and everyone was so nice and attentive. That made her feel much better.”

After an examination and X-ray, it was determined that Bella had fractured her growth plate – an injury that requires three weeks in a cast to heal. “The lady who put the cast on was really friendly, and Bella was given all the information she needed to know how to take care of her cast,” said Karina. Bella was then shown how to walk with crutches. “They spent at least 20 minutes making sure they were at the right level, and that she was comfortable walking with them. The staff spent more time than we’ve experienced before. They really wanted to make sure we had the right tools before we went home.”

The third grader will soon be back to doing what she loves best: playing soccer, riding bikes and walking her good friend, Bear the dog.

Valley of SavannahScottish RiteHappenings

Well Hello Brothers! The Valley of Savannah has had some interesting times since the COVID-

19 shut down to say the least, but we have been able to conduct our Historic 115th year reunion in our historic building. 122 candidates received the high degrees and now are our newest Masters of the Royal Secret. The offices have relocated to Alee Shrine located at 100 Eisenberg Rd.
