The Dean’s Comments Merry Christmas! I hope you had quality time at worship, as well as with family and friends, this holiday season and are ready to get back to the usual schedule and activities. This is also a time for New Year resolutions. I remember the wonderful idea former dean Mark Meuser offered in his message for the 2017 February Guilder: “I would suggest to you a resolution that is pretty easy to keep. Resolve to attend an upcoming AGO event.” I would add that you consider inviting someone who would not drive alone or attend alone. 2018, the year of the 100th Anniversary of the

Columbus AGO Chapter, is now over, but the wonderful memories continue. I am told the final event at First Congregational Church for organ and instruments was remarkable. A big thank-you to Kevin Jones, Todd Wilson, and instrumentalists for sharing their talents so wonderfully. Also, another big thank-you is in order for the 100th anniversary planning committee for their three years of planning and careful overseeing of each event. Committee members were Al Adcock (facilitator), Cynthia Adcock, Sally Casto, Carol Hofer, Jason Keefer, Mark Meuser, Sara Seidel, and Tom Gerke. Thank you also to the host sites and those who helped with the events. Our program year continues with the Student Recital at St. Luke Lutheran

Church, 4456 Morse Road, Columbus, Sunday, January 20, at 3:00 p.m. Teachers, please contact facilitator Jennifer Kristler at [email protected] if you have not already made arrangements for your students to play at this event. We hope many Columbus Chapter AGO members will attend to support and encourage these student organists. An offering will be taken to support programs for student organists, and the program will be followed by a small reception. Structured after the successful event last February, the chapter offers February

Fanfare, an event of many and varied educational sessions on Saturday, February 16, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Upper Arlington. Please check out the offerings and encourage others to attend with you. I hope many of you have dusted off your favorite Bach piece. In celebration of J. S. Bach’s 334th birthday, the Columbus Chapter is hosting a Members’

Recital to be held Friday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church. Tyler Robertson will coordinate this event. Please let him know you are interested in participating and which piece(s) you would like to play. For those members who qualify as Young Organists, this summer’s Great Lakes Regional Convention offers a limited number of free registration, free housing, and free convention transportation. We hope many will take advantage of this opportunity. The Executive Committee is making plans for the 2019/2020 program year. If you have suggestions, please let an Executive Committee member know them. Best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year 2019! Tom Gerke Dean, Columbus Chapter AGO
